hi have been type 2 now 5 years i use to check my own sugar level quite often but my gp said it was waste of time to keep checking
just wait for yearly check ups thoses with type 2 how many times do you test your own levels
thanks from bill

I test 2 hours after each meal. A year is a long time to wait between checks. I prefer to know what my levels are and adjust my food accordingly right away.

Hello

I test upon waking, 2 hours after breakfast, 2 hours after lunch and sometimes randomly. On average 3 times a day. I think it's the only way to be really informed about your sugars, and I certainly don't think it is a waste of time.

I only really test 2 weeks before a review or before bedtime so that I dont hypo in the night which I tend to do.

I was testing before and after every meal but now only test if I feel particularly ill or if I've been on a night out before going home so I can eat if need be.
But I do get an hba1c every 3months at the moment, I'd worry if I had to wait a year, but that might just be because its still quite new to me.

I have been type 2 for 13 years, and at first used to reguarly test my BS, the docs kept telling me theres no need for a type 2 to test BS. After years of being told this I gave in and tested on a very low frequency, this has lead to my BS creeping up slowly over the years un-noticed.

I to only used to get a HBa1c test yearly and I have to book that myself, since Nov I have had 3 HBa1c tests which show BS is rising with no concern from the docs even when the results come back saying you need to see a doctor, which they then ask why are you here to see the me (doc).

Recently my numbers have been in the high teens to a near 23, don't know what the highest number has actually been. Now on new meds and having to test first thing in the morning, before lunch and at bed time as these are now my lower levels I also random tests 2 hours after meals to see what I am peaking at, which is some times in the mid teens, I also follow what seams to be DVLA's new guide lines of testing before driving and evey 2 hours when out, as my current meds can cause lows.

Only my opinion, I would test at a rate you feel comfortable with, you will soon build up a pattern of where your peaks or lows are occuring, and can adjust your food accordingly.
