Diagnosed last Thursday 28th or was I?

Maybe you should think about discussing going onto low doses of insulin to bring you down lower? Your body obviously can't do it by itself and is struggling... The fact you're going down a bit but then up but then down a bit sounds like fluctuation rather than ur meds actually working... Even on...

    Newly diagnosed type 2

Many people on the forum have said that going onto insulin was the best thing they did and they wished they had have done it sooner and that you can notice the difference immediately. U also don't have to be as strict with your diet! I think it's a personal thing for everyone... For me it's not...

    New to this!

Hi sheryl and welcome :-) I'm type 1.5 diagnosed in December and up until just a couple weeks ago I had constant dull achy headaches and after speaking to my DN about it its safe to say mine, personally, were definitely related to the diabetes, even now if I run high or low BG the headache...

Diagnosed last Thursday 28th or was I?

Hi Carl, if you aren't getting them down with the meds and diet then I think you should ask and discuss with ur doctor about going on to insulin. My consultant told me that if my levels started to creep up despite diet and my tablets then to contact him straight away for the transition onto...

    Newly diagnosed type 2

I had a feeling! They really need to start doing these blood tests on more people at diagnosis as it just causes more problems in the long run! Which antibodies do you have and do you only have one type of antibody? I only have one type.. GAD65 and they told me to consider gong onto insulin ASAP...

How can I be diabetic ???

I'm on Metformin and I actually demanded to go onto it as opposed to gliclazide which is a whole lot worse for your pancreas... I have type 1.5 though apparently and although I have had a few gastro problems with Metformin they haven't been that bad and I'm not on the slow release version either...

Diagnosed last Thursday 28th or was I?

I had a feeling you were type 1.5, I am too apparently although I'm not at the insulin stage. I have read on here though that it makes a massive difference as soon as you go onto insulin and that many wish they had have went onto it sooner so it sounds all good if you're ok with the idea of...

    More confusion!

I got told fasting was the most important....for diagnosing! Certainly not in general?? I don't understand that at all because being diabetic revolves around food so surely testing after meals to see how your body is coping with food is what you need to do?? I'm really confused too though and...

    LADA/1.5 so confused??

I agree mimo u could possibly be 1.5 and having u on gliclazide could have accelerated your need for insulin, this is why I keep saying that everyone should ask their HCP'S to be considered given the c-peptide and antibody blood test when diagnosed. I appreciate its more expensive but I'm sure...

high blood glucose still! does it take time?

Hi Lou, I am Type 1.5 or LADA. Diagnosed just before Xmas. They initially diagnosed me as type 2 even though my BMI was 23 and I'm only 26 but I'm lucky and although my GP practice are rubbish, my diabetes centre are really good and the consultant there ran full bloods on me which showed that I...

Diagnosed last Thursday 28th or was I?

Hi tarwadillo, diabetes doesn't cause diarrhoea but Metformin often does... I don't know if your taking it yet or not but it is a side effect of normal Metformin so IBS suffers generally need Slow Release Metformin if they need to take it. Just a thought :-) Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

    Glucose readings

Hypos as a type 2 can anyone help please?

Hi and welcome, If you are definitely a type 2 . Metformin doesn't cause hypos but I'm not sure about the others, if they make the pancreas produce more insulin then they may be causing you to produce more than you actually need - hence the hypos. I'm no medical expert -Someone else might...

    Very confused newly diagnosed

Hi Richard, Unfortunately the majority of people feel they get no help whatsoever from the NhS when it comes to diabetes as most of them don't know anywhere near as much as the people in this here forum! With regard to a GTT test I would do one myself and many people have done that! Just drink...

high blood glucose still! does it take time?

Hi Lou, have they done a full blood test on you? As in checking c-peptide and checking for antibodies? You are also quite young for type 2 and going to the gym and losing weight like u describe should have produced some really good results...Along with the meds you're taking. I don't...

Diagnosed last Thursday 28th or was I?

Not sure about Stella but vodka brings my levels down lol! Yes if you've been running really high BG your retina will be swollen so u will feel the pressure and maybe get blurry vision which eill continue as your levels come down, it can take a few weeks to fix itself once you start getting...

Diagnosed last Thursday 28th or was I?

With regard to the slow carb before bed, yes lots of people say this works for them as ur body doesn't think it's starving so much then and doesn't need to top u up as much. From what you've said the Metformin seems to have had minimal impact and as I said before I suspect maybe you aren't type...

high blood glucose still! does it take time?

    Low Carb Diet

Yes that's true, everyone's different.... I haven't dramatically went low carb what I did was changed all of my carbs to better carbs (low GI) and have smaller portions and that works for me. I totally love carbs I couldn't live without them I don't think! Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

Diagnosed last Thursday 28th or was I?

If you don't eat for a while your body goes into starvation mode so ur liver dumps a bunch of glucose into your blood to top u up. That's fine for normal people but us diabetics can't break it down and it pushes us up sky high! To stop this happening I usually never go long between meals/snacks...
