Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

Re: Type 2's : What was your fasting blood glucose in a morn So if you remember, yesterday I had a lie in (half an hour anyway) and had a fasting reading of 7.5 (dissapointing for me). Today I had to be up early (an hour earlier than usual) and had a 5.7 (excellent for me). I had very little...

    Which Statin?

It seems to vary from individual to individual. In my case it took weeks or months before I felt I'd returned to normal but quite a few people here have reported much shorter timescales. I think the least I've seen was a week or so. Might depend how long you've been on them. I too had foggy...

    Omega 3 supplements and cholesterol

Well after all that reading and considering, I've decided to keep taking the supplement until my next full set of bloods at least. It doesn't look like I'm going to have lost much weight this time :( so if the theory of cholesterol jumping a little when you lose some weight is correct, it...

    finger pricking problems

Since diagnosis at Easter, I've not had any problems getting blood from the side of my pinkie or the next one up but this week I've struggled a few times. I always give them a rinse in hot water before starting. I think it might be the colder weather. I'm going to try giving them a longer soak...

    HBA1c

Jackalima, It is quite in order to ask your doctor to give you the specific numbers from your HbA1c tests. Just ask at the next meeting. Write them down if he/she doesn't offer you a printout. This will give you more to go on when trying to work out how yiou are doing. (One doctor's "OK" is...

Not doing good! Need encouragement & advice!!

In your position I'd be trying to bring my Dec 13th appointment forward if that was possible. Sounds like you are well in control of your food intake so I'm not sure Desmond would help your short term issues. I did it just two weeks ago and it was very good but concentrated on diet, etc with...

Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

Re: Type 2's : What was your fasting blood glucose in a morn Thanks SparkJack 7.5 this morning (not great for me) Blast! I was 6.6 yesterday and had a pretty good day (for me) of 1500 calories and 180 carbs with a -400 calorie gym session thrown in for good luck. (I was 5.8 two hours after...

    Quick one please..tangerines v potatoes

Thanks for all suggestions. After a couple of very time consuming false starts, I've started using Myfitnesspal.com on line and via my smart phone. It has the mix of features I wanted: - It's free .....I'm a scot, after all - You can nearly always find a food if you type in the full name from...

Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

Re: Type 2's : What was your fasting blood glucose in a morn Don't know if I should really confess this but 8.8 this morning, my highest fasting reading since diagnosis, including being on a cruise on holiday. Combination of an unlimited supply of birthday goodies, celebratory meal with old...

    Quick one please..tangerines v potatoes

About 2.5 inches diameter. Tried a couple of searches on tangerines. I think I need a carb counter that deals with units rather than weight (for example one 2.5" diameter tangerine or one 7" banana, that kind of thing as opposed to per 100g)

    Quick one please..tangerines v potatoes

HI, Just trying to accurate track my carbs (first day) I've got 140g of potatoes which will be boiled at 25g carb .... but two average tangerines (afternoon snack) at 24g Is this right? If so I'm going to be eating fewer tangerines!

    Stopped taking meds.

Mistee, I loved crisps and could eat half a dozen bags at a sitting at one time! They are just totally addictive and moreish. Problem is that most are more than 50% carbohydrate, the balance being mostly fat and incredibly fattening. It takes more willpower than I've got to just eat half a...

    Omega 3 supplements and cholesterol

A bit more reading has led me to a couple of people saying that sometimes your cholesterol goes up a bit temporarily as you lose weight so I think I retain an open mind on the Omega 3 supllement. Will see what happens at next test.

    Omega 3 supplements and cholesterol

The more I see of the medical profession, the motre worried I become that everyone, doctors, nurses, dieticians, etc seems to be bound to comply exactly with the NICE/SIGN guidelines and that thinking for themselves has been abolished. This is a pretty dangerous situation if you think about it...

    Omega 3 supplements and cholesterol

Just to add to my confusion on this topic, a different NHS dietician at my DESMOND course told me that they don't generally recommend Omega 3 supplements (although they do value an Omega 3 contribution from eating oily fish).

    Stopped taking meds.

Mistee, I've just been on a DESMOND course organised by my surgery and it concentrated quite a lot on what to eat, etc. The same information is available in leaflet form. The doc could also refer you to a dietician (some would say should refer) for advice. So there is lots of advice out there...

diabetes diary? do you record everything?

I just use a page a day diary to write everything into. Cheap and cheerful but effective. I might switch to smart phone at some point though.
