    Diagnosed this week

There's an excellent app for diabetes management for both the iPod and ipad, it allows for meds, carbs, BG.BP etc etc and presents the data in both table and graph forms. Perversely, even though you can add the data, it does not offer a graph for calories taken. It also gives you nutritional...

    Type 2 One year on..

Thanks and I will report back. I've had a rough week, family issues, nothing too bad but it did throw me for a day or so. It's of some comfort that many others are experiencing similar highs/lows to me. We have a side on side "American" fridge/ freezer...with ice and chilled water on tap. This...

    Metformin.

I've found it to be totally fine, providing I take it mid meal, as opposed to with a meal. By that I mean that, I eat half my meal ( breakfast) wash it down with a pint of iced water, then I continue. Apart from a bit of bloating and a gripey tum for the first few days, all's been well. Sent...

Can't seem to control Blood Sugars

Debs. I've just come through a similar thing, albeit with lower BG readings. I, too, have had a rotten chest infection and have been very low calorie and low carbing. I felt like death yesterday and did have a tortilla followed by strawberries and cream. I'm now banging in sub 7's again...not...

What on earth is going on?

Many thanks for the informative reply. I will have a gander at the modified Atkins today. I have used the Atkins on many an occasion in the past, though is time it does look like it will have to be a way of life and not just another 'diet'. Since my reading earlier, I had a tin of tuna for...

What on earth is going on?

Many thanks for both the replies. They do make perfect sense. On the ketosis, yep I understand where you are coming from. However, and forgive my ignorance but, surely any sugar dumped by my liver has come from somewhere? In this instance my fat reserves? I am doing my own version of the...

    Lancets

I do, yep. The lancet applicator does not appear to have the oomph to pierce the skin on my arm. I switched to the shroud usually used for finger tests and I ended up with enough claret to do a test. Thanks for the info, I'm now looking for a decent applicator, as the lancets themselves are...

    Lancets

Hi, Only after a few weeks my fingers are beginning to get a bit sore, so I have tried taking a sample from my forearm. But, even when I have the lancet device on 7 ( I use an iBGStar) it barely makes a scratch. I have a shed load of lancets and do not re use. Could anyone point (!) me in the...

If you use an iPod/ipad there is an excellent app which plots all you data in a graph, with averages etc. Otherwise, open excel on your PC and use the wizard feature. Simply make a few columns, with date, time, meals eaten and reading. Enter your readings and use the average feature, or use the...

What on earth is going on?

Hi, I'm now classed as a fully fledged type 2er...on 500g metformin a day. My BS levels ( using an iBGStar, which is supposedly accurate) have usually been around the 8, 7 or mark ( with the occasional 5). Since I started on the metformin ( this week) I haven't banged in a sub 7 and have been...

    Oh Well.....

...whilst I can and often do eat a continental breakfast, I can't ever remember thinking..." Mmmm I could murder a continental breakfast!" I'm going to have a go at this Bergen stuff, strawberries and when the weight drops a bit more.... a full English. Porridge does throw me too...and those...

Breakfasts filling enough to counteract the side effects of

Hi, and forgive me if this has been asked before. I started on metformin today and, within a matter of a few hours, felt like death. After about 5 hours I felt fine..but now bloated again after eating dinner ( only on 1 x 500mg a day) I took the tablet whilst eating a full time of tuna in a...

    BUPA ??

Funnily enough, I rang BUPA today. Once you re diagnosed with T2 they aren't interested unless one ends up with further issues. This, to me, seems a bit shortsighted.. Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

Yep, I'll be hitting the weights and bike in a bit...the better half is just vaccing the play room ( 360kinetic, soundbar weights etc, ...) no girls allowed! I've got a bit of gut rot, could be the meds...could be anything for that matter. I'm just having a read up on the effects of alcohol and...
