    Easier and trickier carbs

With split bolus does it tend to be the same timings, say half with meal and half two hours later, or do you watch your Libre/cgm and take the second bolus when there’s a rise? I’ve tried pasta so many times and the second rise comes at different times each attempt, and sometimes never comes...

Has it been a lot of trial and error with pizza? I’ve only ever tried a vegan one (I’m dairy intolerant) and even that seemed tricky and has different results every time, I seem to need to split bolus every carb that isn’t bread or potatoes. Thanks, will try that with spaghetti - I’m sure I read...

    Easier and trickier carbs

Yeah, me too! I have different bolus timings every single attempt- one time I was waiting six hours for the rise, it’s like I have to really dedicate the day to it (only eat it at lunch time)

That’s great, do you have to split bolus for many carbs? Is pasta quite straightforward?

    Easier and trickier carbs

Oh no, that’s interesting as it seems potatoes are easier for others/most here on this thread. We are all different though, it would so much easier if we all reacted the same and then there would be a manual of how to time bolus injections for each meal. I have ‘experiment days’ where I try out...

    Easier and trickier carbs

Wow, you are so lucky that you find pizza easy! That’s interesting about the hot drinks, does soup cause similar problems? Maybe the fat in the burger slows down the digestion of the bread/bun. It’s all such a headache isn’t it, I sometimes have steak with veggies and no carbs to avoid the...

    Easier and trickier carbs

Hi, yes I absolutely find the same - 30g carbs per meal makes my bloods so much easier to deal with. Interesting that we generally find potatoes the easiest. You might be right about the fat/protein we put with pasta etc causing more of a delay. I’ve been trying to put on weight recently and...

    Easier and trickier carbs

Do you find bread and potatoes easier to deal with? I struggle with low GI food and find split bolus too time consuming - having to watch what my blood sugar is up to like a hawk. It’s maybe the breadcrumbs on the chicken burger? I have erratic results with them too. And we are told that T1 can...

    Easier and trickier carbs

Yes! Thought I had mastered breaded/battered food but suddenly it’s all change and back to the beginning again, ugh! Can you manage bread/toast for breakfast? I find I have to bolus 35 minutes before I eat then. That’s great you’ve worked out spaghetti, any tips? Do you have to split bolus for...

    Easier and trickier carbs

Chips! What’s with them - I’m the same! I did find that if I had them alongside bread, bit of a carb fest, they are fine but otherwise they are very unpredictable. Sausages and potatoes are my easy go to as well! Or chicken and potatoes, no split bolus hassle and I know I’m not going to go sky...

    Easier and trickier carbs

Hi, I was just wondering if there is a carb that you all find ‘easier’ than others. Do you avoid certain types or find others quite straightforward to bolus for? I find potatoes the easiest, barely any rise, and an easy ten minute pre-bolus. Pasta is weird and I seem to need less insulin, I...

    Officially team 1.5

Hi Marie, it sounds like you have a really positive attitude - that’s so great. It does appear that quite a few people are misdiagnosed reading through the forums, and GPs wrongly assume T1 is a childhood disease x

    Newly Diagnosed T1

Hi Vicky, sending a big hug - it’s quite a shock to get the diagnosis isn’t it and it can feel so overwhelming. I’m a year into my diagnosis now, in my late 40s, and learnt so much here on the forums. It’s good to know you’re not alone with this condition I think, and everyone will understand...

    HELP PLEASE

I have a few squares of Pure chocolate, it’s a dairy free chocolate bar and lower carb - it tastes so good! I think it featured on dragons den, it’s a bit pricey but lovely for a treat as it tastes just like ordinary milk chocolate and comes in lots of flavours

    Having a strange week

Hi Chloe, I think it’s just the unpredictability of diabetes maybe! It may well be your pancreas is still trying to ‘help’ now and again? I have a few of those days a month where reactions to food can suddenly change - for example some weeks I have to split bolus for food with breadcrumbs...

    Hypo treatment took few attempts?!

Oh no, you too! I’ve never had this happen at night, although I do remember trudging around in the rain at 11 pm, in tears, trying to get my blood sugar down soon after diagnosis. I’ve never had this happen where I can’t get my blood sugar up, I’m terrified of hypos too. Usually my boyfriend...

    Hypo treatment took few attempts?!

Thanks, I really needed to read that. I’m so tired today and a bit weepy and clumsy, trying to home school on four hours sleep and my blood sugar is rubbish. I guess I’m in a puddle of self pity and blaming myself isn’t going to help. I’ll have a low carb donut and a cup of tea, fingers crossed...

    Hypo treatment took few attempts?!

Hi there, I usually have two bits of toast without a spike with a half hour pre bolus. Its the only breakfast I’ve figured out how to eat in a year! I usually have a biscuit mid morning if blood sugar in range without any issue but today the biscuit caused some mayhem. Guess I’m having strange...

    Hypo treatment took few attempts?!

Thanks, that’s really good to know. I think I got a bit panicky with my hypo fear after the second treatment didn’t work
