Hi

so this week my blood sugars have been up and down like a yo-yo, I’m 16 months post diagnosis.. taking humulin I and novarapid. Usually 8 units humulin I and 4-5 units per meal.. this week I noticed my blood sugars have been trending lower so reduced basal to 7 and mealtime to 3 units.. I’ve just tested before tea. Bs 4.3 so chose to inject for the meal once my sugars had started to rise, ate my meal and almost an hour later my bs has only rose to 6mmol after chips. Very strange, does anyone else have weeks where your insulin requirements just go down and you have this excited feeling that you may be cured.. (I know I’m not)

I thought my honeymoon had ended... I’m so so confused.

I just finished my period.. I usually have to take 10 units of humulin and 6-7 units for meals with corrections in the week before my period, then drops to 8 units..my insulin sensitivity seems to be high all of a sudden and I’ve not changed my diet or been exercising or lost weight. Have no idea what’s happening

Hi @Chloelox

Changes can happen for many reasons, heat, hormones, exercise, stress and for absolutely no fathomable reason whatsoever. Sometimes there is no rhyme or reason, I tend to think that you just have to be prepared to deal with anything t1 throws at you and know how to respond and this is the benefit of gaining experience with it, look for patterns though as patterns will indicate a need to review doses and always start with basal as this is the key to managing your control.

Sorry to read of your yoyoing week.
What makes you think your honeymoon period is over? Mine lasted 8 years.
Perhaps your pancreas decided another attempt to create some insulin.

Hi Chloe, I think it’s just the unpredictability of diabetes maybe! It may well be your pancreas is still trying to ‘help’ now and again? I have a few of those days a month where reactions to food can suddenly change - for example some weeks I have to split bolus for food with breadcrumbs, others I suddenly have to bolus upfront. I have a completely different reaction to pasta or chips with every attempt and my nurse has advised me not to inject for carby snacks for the time being as my pancreas is still a bit erratic x

My DSN told me my figures and levels showed the honeymoon was over. I did suspect this may not be the case as I was last reviewed when I was under a tremendous amount of stress and missing injections and under injecting back in October
