    Blind leading Blind!

Hi, she tests in the morning takes her bolus and basal at roughly 8 am. School has snack at about 10:45 so she eats then. She can either have a hypo at about 9:00 if she has had a big breakfast and a large insulin dose ie weetabix juice and milk or it is just before lunch even after she has had...

    Blind leading Blind!

Hi all, looking for advice. My 8yr old daughter is experiencing hypo's twice a day before lunch and before bed. We use the accu-chek expert so I thought we were being given accurate info from machine. The DSN told me to now override the machine if I think in my opinion that it is going to give...

    Advice please

Re: Advice please Hi, do you think it would be worth her talking to one of the counselors that the DSN have available to them. Maybe talking to a stranger would help. I have a soon to be 9yr old who is hopefully going to pump soon so I know the age group. Mine has also started to say I don't...

Hypo after taking levimir, anyone else had this?

We have found that as well. Just double check that there is enough time between your novorapid and taking your Levimir. The DSN advised 1 and a half hours if possible. We can only do this at night not morning

A Light Hearted Look at Stupid People

Hi Philly, I think that there is a point during this journey with our children that we become a little bit more thick skinned about people and their stupidity. In the beginning I felt that I had to keep explaining to them how awful it was for my daughter, and on really bad day I wanted to do...

    Techie Stuff

Hi all, we were given one of these for free from my daughter's Diabetic nurse. She just handed it to us when she gave us the ACCU-CHEK aviva expert. So don't buy one until you ask they might have them lying around. I find them really handy when we go for my daughter's check-up. Last time I...

Hi, thanks for that. We have the carbs and cals book. I was wondering if anyone had used a book that listed the gi of foods so I could see which worked with which. You know how sometimes you give a big bowl of pasta the carb content is high the insulin is a large amount and then the pasta is...

My son is 11 , newly diagnosed type 1.Just got home

Hi Ty, we had the same problem as my daughter is a pasta monster. We just had to bargain with her and tell her she could eat what she wants and the amounts she wants as long as she eats it at the mealtimes so the insulin can counter balance it. She finds it very difficult when others get things...

Ladies (and any gents out there) we are now a new team. We have to put on this brave, confident front at all times with our children and we need to let rip somewhere!!! This is as good a place as anywhere! I agree with someone who suggested it would be handy if parents or newly diagnosed was...

Do you ever just want a day off from diabetes ?!!

Thank you so much for that Anna, you brought tears to my eyes. My daughter has a twin who does not have diabetes, has been within 10 feet of her his whole life and has had all the same illnesses, as they just infected each other yet doesn't have it so yes the randomness is a mystery yet to be...

    Sugar free gum

Hi, with everything you have to check carb content. If it is less than 15g then you can take it without insulin. If it is more you need insulin according to DSN M
