Do you ever just want a day off from diabetes ?!!

For the first time since my daughter was diagnosed in Aug I left her under the charge of my husband. I had all medicine times, food measured and written down before I went and I still fretted the whole time I was away from her. I don't think there is life away from diabetes once it is with you...

Hi was told we were being given the pump for my 8 yr old at Easter. I had psyched her up and we were totally enthusiastic. My daughters figures then started to go a bit crazy and we are now having 5 injections 3 novorapids and 2 levemir 1 at night and 1 in morning. She has to be tested during...

Have been given green light for pump!

Hi Spearmint we have been given a choice of medtronic veo, Animas or Roche. From what I have heard, most think that an 8yr old would get on well with the medtronic. Have you any thoughts? M

Have been given green light for pump!

Thanks again for all your replies. Sometimes you read other people's messages and it is like they are inside your head. This diabetes is a learning curve that I never thought I would be doing! Bizarrely my next door neighbour's child has also been diagnosed and they seem to be the only 2...

Have been given green light for pump!

Hi thank you for your support and help. I think diabetes must be like this every step of the way. Just when you get the hang of the machine you change to a new one and then thrown into the mix what works one day for diabetes doesn't the next. She was only diagnosed the last week of Aug so we...

Have been given green light for pump!

Hi all, we were with the consultant this week and they have agreed that my 8yr old can have the pump. She has to go on a few sessions at the end of Feb using the saline solution. Then she will be given the real thing for the Easter week. Really hope this will work out, but very nervous. There...

    Sad start to 2013!

Thank you so much for your kind thoughtful words. Turns out my daughter is also sick and this is why her figures are so high. It is so good to be able to come onto this forum and read other people's comments and discussions as it can follow the parallel of your own life. Nobody understands...

    Sad start to 2013!

Happy New Year everyone! Just wanted to share the sadness that I felt when I had to waken my daughter in the middle of the night to test and then inject her as she was having a hyper. A wave of sadness came over me that this was the way her new year had to start. Sometimes it hits you hard that...

Guys, thanks a million for all your input, it is a minefield out there. I have a lovely DSN but information seems to be on the ask the right questions basis and I don't always know the right questions to ask as we are only just beginners (daughter diagnosed last wk in Aug). confused at pump

Hi all, my 8 yr old daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 at the end of August. We have gone from 2 injections to 4 very quickly. She has now been put on the waiting list for a pump. The DSN has said that she will not get it before next year. Does anyone know why this is? Is this because she is...

    very sad mummy

Jayne, I tried to send this as a quick reply so please excuse me if I am just repeating myself. I am so delighted that things are going a little bit better for you. I had to get my daughter injecting herself as she was screaming and crying and I told her that she would not hurt herself as much...

    the hour change

Hi everyone, just wanted to check my daughter has her Levemir at 8pm each night, I assume I still give it to her even though the clock has changed. I checked the Dr Hanas book and it said that if you are travelling abroad you should take it at local time to adjust your body. Anyone any thoughts? M
