    Feeling frustrated!

If you feel you need to, you could cut back on your 'brown' carbs, ie potatoes, pasta, rice, bread and definitely consider the cereal as that's often a big culprit of spikes. You'll only know by testing, of course I would suggest you don't test every meal but just focus on one a day and, yes...

    Fasting Levels

Hi Juicetin I would have thought your levels and your wife's are actually fine. Check out this link for diabetic and non-diabetic glucose levels https://www.diabetes.co.uk/diabetes_care/blood-sugar-level-ranges.html

    Feeling frustrated!

Hi @dan1jess2 Well done for reducing your glucose levels and such a good amount of weight but sorry to hear of your current dilemma. Firstly, I would ask what have you been eating to get your levels, and weight, down so well? Yes, it would seem likely that, without the Metformin, you might...

    how important this is

Hi @pattendown So sorry to have to meet you here but this forum is the best place to be for friendly, knowledgable advice. :) I'm sorry your OH is burying his head in the sand. I can understand how you must be feeling like banging your head against a brick wall. You say his mum and...

    Anyone tried this?

I have found both LivLife bread, and Burgen bread, to be absolutely fine. Not much different to other breads I used to eat. Just wish I could eat more ;) I haven't tried the Hi-Lo. Definitely recommend the LivLife. :)

    COLD WEATHER

Ha Ha Yes, I had thought of that but haven't got around to it. ;) It's a bit warmer today but I'll have to do that. Thanks for the prompt ;)

    Diagnosed last Friday.....

Well done for finding this forum, Gary, as you will find lots of friendly advice from very experienced and knowledgeable members. When you go to see the nurse and/or doctor, you will undoubtedly be told that, as Type 2/Prediabetic, you don't need to test and, regarding diet, keep eating carbs...

    COLD WEATHER

Yay! That sounds brilliant. I think I might do well to get something similar then ;) I still haven't tracked any source of draught. It can't be the cat flap as I have stuffed a cat bed around it (once both cats are in for the night) and there seems to be NO movement of air from there. It...

Hello! A new kid on the block

Hi Debbie_Mac Welcome to the forum. I have to say your post read very well so your speech recognition would appear to be working well. Well done for taking up the challenge of using a forum. I have to say, this is the best, and most friendly, place to be in relation to Diabetes :) I don't...

Exercise pushes my BGs up - what can I do to control this, please?

Thanks for your further posts. I've got plenty of food for thought now :) and will be experimenting on various things. It's good to know that the amouint my BG rises isn't worth worrying about. Hopefully it will all settle down as I get a bit fitter etc. Certainly, I feel pretty well in...

Type 1 - threatened test strip withdrawal

I would be inclined to write a letter to the Pharmacy person, with courtesy copy to your GP, explaining politely what your GP had said to you re upping your prescription to 6 boxes. I feel it would be in order to say that you are aware that this prescription change doesn't seem to be showing on...

Exercise pushes my BGs up - what can I do to control this, please?

Hi all and thanks very much for your posts. Much appreciated. My apologies for not getting back here sooner but various things have been stopping me. Anyway, I've now been able to read all your fantastic and informative posts :) So, firstly, thanks for explaining how/why I should go out for...

Exercise pushes my BGs up - what can I do to control this, please?

Hi I'm eating an LCHF diet, on Metformin, and have got my glucose levels into a reasonable range, with recent HbA1c at 6%. Each morning my readings (Libre) start off at around 6.0 but rise to around 9.0 before starting to reduce. I'd like to exercise a bit more, although limited due to...

    I'm as mad as hell!!

@Resurgam, I don't remember how long you have been taking Metformin for but it's definitely not suiting you, in my opinion. As your Diabetes nurse is so adamant that you can't change to an alternative, I would certainly make an appointment to see your GP to explain how this medication is...

    Meeting with commissioners

I would like to see a more open-minded approach and support regarding diet for diabetics. One diet-type does not fit all, in my opinion. Also, I would like to see less of a 'tick box' exercise and more of a personal, holistic approach to diabetic reviews, considering these to then become more...

Proof In The pudding Is No Doubt In The Eating

Hi Henrik7 Well done for reducing your HbA1c. You've done really well. Regarding reducing your medication, it would really be best if you had advice from either the GP or the Diabetes nurse, particularly as you are obviously not familiar with how the medications work. Basically, the...

    Freestyle Libre readings

Hi As already mentiioned, the sensors seem to be more accurate if applied 12-24 hours before activating. That's my experience, certainly. Also, comparing the results of devices, be it a variety of glucometers, Libre or whatever else, there will likely be a difference. There are lots of...
