    Liver on the menu?

Hi Yes, liver is one of the many foods I'm strongly advised not to eat because of potential unsafe effects as I take a particular medication (Phenelzine ). Because this medication is in the MAOI group (antidepressant) there is a long list of foods advised to avoid. The most commonly known is...

Advice, pls, before Appt to see Diabetes Nurse again

Hi Yes, it seems so many of these 'professionals' have 'attitude'. Do they feel threatened, or what? I've had a look at the surgery's web page and checked out the staff. Yes, she's there but not given title of 'Diabetes Nurse' or anything but maybe they don't. Also, where it lists the...

    Reverse Type 2 - a question

Hi Sparrow Well done for dropping your HbA1c and certainly it would seem you have good control. You don't say what medications or diet you are currently on. You mentioned that if you 'slip off diet or stop taking tablets' so that suggests to me that you are on some medication for your...

    best bread for a Type2.

If I have a need to increase my blood glucose, I enjoy a slice of LivLive bread http://www.livlifefoods.co.uk/ (with Peanut Butter) :) It's the lowest carb bread I've discovered, at 3.8gms per slice. I love this but rarely eat it. If you Google it, you will see where it's available (UK)

Type 2 When to call for help with a hypo

Hi brottonmoores Sorry to hear you've been experiencing hypos but, being on Gliclazide, it's cetainly possible, as you appreciate. I am wondering how much Lucozade you took for your hypo? Perhaps a bit more than you really needed. I haven't had Lucozade to treat a hype but I do have some in...

    Boils on Leg

@isjoberg Boils (aka Abscess) can be very painful so I do hope you can get on top of these occuring. Have you discussed these occuring with your Diabetes Nurse? It would seem to be a sensible thing to do and maybe she can advise the best way forward for you. High blood glucose levels will...

    Abbott freestyle libre

The Libre can take 24-48 hrs to settle down so you could find the readings improve as yet. However, all meters, ie blood glucose meters, test strips etc will often give a different reading, even if from the same blood sample. There are many factors causing slight differences. The Glucometers...

Advice, pls, before Appt to see Diabetes Nurse again

@donnellysdogs, what were your B12 levels before you started treatment, please? I suspect my GP might try to tell me that it's not particularly low and he'll keep a watch on it :( I'd like to be ready with answers, and the confidence re information etc, so I feel I can respond accordingly...

Advice, pls, before Appt to see Diabetes Nurse again

Thanks to you, Brunneria, donnellysdogs and Enclave My apologies for not replying sooner. I was very busy last evening and have been out (shopping in Cambridge) all day today so not long home, had something to eat and a hot drink now. :) Your comments have been very supportive. I was...

Advice, pls, before Appt to see Diabetes Nurse again

Hi again Well, Arrgh!!! I had my appointment with the Diabetes Nurse this afternoon - NOT impressed! Talk about 'jobsworth'!!! I'd not come across this particular nurse before. As soon as I walked in the door, I was asked to stand on the scales (before sitting down). I did say that the DN...

    IT CAN BE DONE

Well done, Viv. You're clearly done incredibly well to turn your life around in that way :) In spite of the usual advice from Diabetes Nurses that Type 2s don't need to test, I would strongly advise you to buy yourself a Glucometer and test immediately before a meal (for baseline) and then...

Type 2 Am I too low

Well done MaxJoe It sounds like LCHF is working well for you ;) Regarding the Muller yoghurts, the Muller Lite ones are reasonably low carb, at 7.4/100gms, so the pot will be 12.2 carbs for the whole pot. The Muller Bliss are approx 20gm/100gms so, although the pot is much smaller at 110gms...

Umm, presumably you changed your diet since being diagnosed but I wonder what you now eat, that you didn't before diagnosis? What are your other ''numbers/ratios' re lipids as it could be your 'cholestrol is up but maybe your other numbers have changed. Check out the link...

Advice, pls, before Appt to see Diabetes Nurse again

Thanks for the link. I've had a quick look at the print out o f my results and can't see anything relating to ferritin levels. However, although not anaemic, my Hb is in the lower end of range, in spite of taking vits with Iron. It's definitely going to be interesting to see what transpires...

Advice, pls, before Appt to see Diabetes Nurse again

Again, thanks, It was my GP that suggested I take Multivit tabs - specifically 'with iron' although I've never been anaemic in all my life (long though it's been ;) ) When (and not 'if') I see the GP, I'll make a point of discussing this, amongst other things ;)

I've just been to the Cholestrol Calculator in your post, Brunneria, and my most recent results show only one 'Desirable' (Total Cholesterol), LDL and HDL both 'Optimal, Trigs 'Normal' and the three ratios are all 'Ideal' so I dare the nurse to have a go at me, eh? I'll be up for that...

Thanks Brunneria :) I'll check out the link re Cholesterol when I get a minute. I agree, that could be useful should the nurse start on the 'Statins' line, as per usual. I don't want to take statins again and, also, I'm on so many meds that I really don't want to add more, increasing the risk...

    Advice for sore toe please

Certainly, you need to be seen very soon but I would think your Diabetes Nurse should be able to deal with it, including giving you a prescription if necessary. If not, she will ask one of the GPs to see you.

Advice, pls, before Appt to see Diabetes Nurse again

Hi I'm due annual review and have appt with the DN on this coming Thursday. Although I've seen myGP in Feb this year, I haven't seen any of the DNs since last Nov. During this last year, I've totally turned around my control of diabetes and so I'm looking forward to seeing how the nurse will...
