I think the pot with 10 strips that came with the meter may have been faulty. Only have a couple left, so when I'm more experienced, I'll go back and try them again I think. May also have been because I had just had a shower, although I had washed my hands again before testing. Bit of a mystery...

Well after my porridge my reading was 7.1.

I am just starting to test and had problems with my new meter this morning. Eventually got a reading of 8.8 but I think some of that was stress. Just tested again before eating and was 6.4 Now eating porridge with semi skimmed milk and a small amount of Splenda to sweeten.

Well I have just tested again before eating after my high reading this morning (which I think was stress related) and reading was 6.4.

I have just started testing my BG this morning. Had a few problems with (I think) dodgy test strips but eventually got a reading, but had to have a cup of tea, Reading was 8.8 so not very good. Any advice please?

Thank you so much. Washed my hands again and opened a new box of strips and managed to get it to work. Not happy with the reading though - 8.8 and all I've had is a cup of tea!

Yes, and using immediately. It says that blood will be drawn up the little window in the test strip, but as soon as blood touches strip, it beeps E2
