    Is it my fault

Don't blame yourself. Your sons wouldn't want you to, I can be sure of that!

What meter do you have and how accurate is it?

I have an SD Codefree and am happy with it. Test strips aren't too pricey meaning that I can test like a beast and not feel like I'm being ripped off. I'm not sure whether its readings run too high, but it's no big deal. It keeps me on my toes at least. I'll have a better idea at the next HbA1c...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Glad your husband's ok! It's quite disconcerting though getting high numbers when we haven't even eaten anything. I hope we all find ways to control the stress. x

I've just received my latest blood test results...

I don't know whether anyone will see this but I've just received the results of my HbA1c: 6.1% (the lab reference values are between 2.0 and 6.0) There's room for improvement but it's not as bad as I was expecting. x

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

I was thinking of how I could vary my cooked breakfasts and you've just given me an idea - sausage patties! Great! As for stress, my morning fasting reading was 7 and after taking the dogs out and having to separate two (play)fighting labradors whilst trying to stop them from cracking the...

Yesterday's food: B: Two pots of fromage blanc with whipped cream L: Salad with bits of cured ham, mandarin D: Stir-fry with beef marinated for over 24 hours in soy sauce and Chinese five-spice, yellow pepper, bamboo shoots, mini corn (jarred in vinegar), carrot, green beans and a handful of...

Just found out im type 2 diabetic!

Hi Pinky, I'm not officially diabetic (yet) but do have high BS. Welcome to the forum, you'll get a lot of support here. I don't have an official diagnosis but I am testing my sugars before and after meals and that is diagnosis enough for the moment. I've just turned 38 and this has been hanging...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Yesterday: B: Two pots of fromage blanc (or maybe it was fromage frais) which came topped with whipped cream L: Salad with chicken liver confit, mandarin orange D: ahem... I caved and did frozen pizzas: half four cheese and half bacon. I ate the topped bits and gave the crusts to the dogs...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Thanks for the cauliflower ideas! Roasted with chilli and lime sounds lovely. Cauliflower cheese is also on my list of things to make. I have a couple of courgettes (one white, one green) to make noodles with, probably tomorrow with a bit of salmon!

Happy hunting! Edit: I see you found one! Enjoy :-) Try if you can to find smoked raclette cheese, nom nom nom.

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

If you do a search for 'raclette grill' you should find plenty of models. Ours is a round purple one by Tefal called "simply invent" (if I'm allowed to cite brand names). It's well worth comparing prices on the French version of the big shopping site that starts with A as the one we have is 42...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

We have a little round machine where you can cook meat (bacon and stuff) on top and melt cheese in little pans underneath (on the coffee table in front of the telly). A few bits of melted cheese and I'm full :-) The accompanying bread and potatoes are probably off limits for many of us, but...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Hi all, Yesterday was a very busy day: B: "fromage blanc" with berries L: skipped a few pork scratchings in the afternoon (the ones I find here are very fatty) D: raclette (cheese, bacon, salami, chorizo), one mandarin orange Edit: oh, and I've already got through 60 test strips

I'm interested in the Monin sugar-free syrups, they sound nice with coffee!

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Just had the same brekkie (apart from the tomatoes) and it's a keeper: 2 hours later I've gone from 6.2 to 5.6. My best post-brek reading so far :-)

    Pre Diabetes v Diabetes

I live in France so I can only speak from the French perspective, but I've noticed that the doctors here are pretty thorough in ordering blood tests if there's the slightest doubt of anything. You get a prescription and then take it to an independent lab. You get a copy of the results. Anyway...

    What happened to this place?

This is a great site, a lifeline. For the moment I'm gaining experience and learning and hope to be able to share that with others in the future. In the meantime I try to post here and there, especially food/recipe ideas.

    Pre Diabetes v Diabetes

It think it's because it's easy to overlook as with pre-diabetes there probably aren't any symptoms (but I could be wrong on this!). Mine was caught because I have to go the doctor relatively often for another complaint which is considered a risk factor for diabetes and every year or so I have a...
