What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Yesterday (did a lot of running around and hauling shopping bags): B: the usual "fromage blanc/cream" with defrosted berry mix L: leftover shakshuka Snack: small grapefruit and pecan nuts (which raised me from about 6.2 to 6.9) D: couldn't be bothered so just had 2 roasted chicken thighs and...

    Type 2 Stress and BG

Hi, thanks for your reply :-) I get stressed very easily, it's quite annoying physically feeling the stress rise up. If it isn't my husband's injury and my pre-diabetes then it would only be something else. I guess something like yoga, meditation or Tai Chi is in order.

First day's results with new monitor

I'd never heard of the pizza effect until getting the prolonged high readings and doing a panic google ;-) I'll try thin crust and extra cheese then, or just have one slice. I used to make pitta bread pizzas (split a pitta in two and then top it), maybe I could handle those if I stick to one pitta.

First day's results with new monitor

I've bought smaller ones this week and also never eat them on their own. Hopefully that'll help...

First day's results with new monitor

I've hardly had any grain products since I started but throw the odd one in just to test. The (whole) pizza actually messed me up quite bad. In addition to the high BG I also had a headache later and high BS the next day (not sure whether there's a link). Any grain products tested from now on...

    Type 2 Stress and BG

Hi, I'm pre-diabetic teetering on the edge of type 2 and a bit of a stress-head. How quickly does stress translate into high BS? Is it more or less immediately or a few hours later? I was under some stress this morning and I went from 6.1 (fasting, not stressed, had breakfast soon after) to...

Type 2 living in France, lots of questions

Hi, I was just searching the forums for diet info and came across your post. I live in France too, and have just started taking steps to lower my blood sugar as I'm borderline type 2 at the moment. I've gone low carb high fat (or at least higher fat) and have begun testing my blood glucose with...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Found some short-dated merguez so I think that calls for a shakshuka for tonight's dinner!

    High test in morning ????

Me too, am feeling reassured. Been trying very hard and some of the readings I've got have been very disheartening. I start off at around 7 or 8 in the morning, dip to around 5 before lunch and then end up at around 6-ish in the evening. And that's when I scrutinise what I eat. The pizza I had...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Lunch: salad (a mixed bag of rocket, strands of beetroot, and lamb's lettuce) with balsamic vinegar, olive oil, pancetta and roquefort. Mandarin orange. If (or when) that lot sends my BG into the stratosphere then I'll just have to laugh hysterically ;-)

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Thanks! I was very pleased with it although I'll probably marinate the meat in teriyaki (I think that's what it's called) next time.

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Last night: stir fry with strips of beef marinated in 2 tablespoons soy sauce and some chinese five spice, carrot, red pepper, broccoli, bamboo shoot, mini sweetcorn, snow peas. Edit: sprinkled with toasted sesame seeds Followed by literally 7 or 8 doritos from my husbands bag and a plain...

    Veg Dodgers!!

Thanks! And it's given me an idea for what to make for this evening's meal. I'm gonna put carrots, broccoli (scary), red pepper, bamboo shoots (tinned), mini sweetcorn (jarred, in vinegar), and a handful of (frozen) snow peas in it, as well as thin slices of beef which I need to marinate in...

    Veg Dodgers!!

I have a pressure cooker too - I love it, it's great for stews that would otherwise take 3 hours!

I've just received my latest blood test results...

Thanks :-) And thanks also for the advice, I've just been poking random fingers although some more than others no doubt. My left hand is a bit battered with the holes in my fingers plus the little finger is in a mess from when the dog yanked the lead yesterday! I've been changing the lancet...

I've just received my latest blood test results...

Yes, he said to drop the obvious sugary stuff. I'm actually happy cutting a lot of the carbs out. I've been cutting down for the past couple of weeks. Since the meter arrived a couple of days ago I've tested porridge and pizza. The pizza was a total disaster... I'm actually realising that some...

    Veg Dodgers!!

What about a stir-fry? All the veg is cut up into smallish pieces. I admit I've been doing mine with frozen veg (for convenience), which kinda ends up waterlogging the wok, but I will give fresh veg a try soon. Or steamed veg? I'm saying all this but I'm still a massive veg-dodger. Steamed some...

    Veg Dodgers!!

I love the "veg recipes of india" site. It's well worth a look if you don't know it. I've haven't been back though since the diabetes issue reared its ugly head but I will do soon. Need to test to see if I can tolerate the dahls...
