    Struggling a little...

I would suggest that you persevere for a while - when you change your diet so radically your body can take a while to adjust. The higher carbs and especially if they are gluten-based like bread, cake, biscuits, etc., can encourage pathogenic bacteria and yeasts in the gut and they can kick up a...

friends trying to talk me out of low carbing

There are a number of studies that have discounted any real issues with low-carb diets and a few that have shown positive results, especially for Diabetics. I have seen posts on here with links that you may be able to find if you do a search. You could also try pointing out that many cultures...

    What is everyone eating?

Hmm. I don't eat breakfast until about 10am and then it is just an apple. That is enough until lunch which is usually a couple of rice cakes with either scrambled eggs, mackerel and mayo, pate and soft cheese or ham, with a little salad. Dinner would be fish, meat or poultry with either a...

Benefits of Reducing Carbs for Eyesight.

That's interesting Ken. About 18 months ago I had to drop gluten foods from my diet due to severe intolerance. My husband decided to follow suit (he hates being left out of anything 'special'!) and give it a try. It took 2 or 3 forays back to gluten and the consequent fall-out to make him...

    Made A Start

Yes, but there are plenty of studies to show that LC is much more beneficial for Diabetics AND weight loss. One of them is shown on Graham's thread 'Beware of the Carbs'. There are too many Diabetics out there who are benefitting from it for it to be ignored for much longer. The proof is in...

    Low Carbs and Fibre

The Inuit eat virtually no fibre at all yet do they suffer with constipation? If they did, I'm sure we would know about it! Um.......who says we need fibre for regularity? The Grain industry? I am very gluten intolerant so I can't have wheat, barley or rye, so they are out. My body also...

    Carb binge - cant stop!

Try thinking of it as a TRAP. Once you get caught in it it is hard to get out because it becomes a vicious cycle. The sugar and carbs actually robs the body of nutrients. Your body then starts to impatiently demand more food to make up the shortfall. You then give it more carbs and the cycle...

    Low Carb = no energy!

I haven't a clue - not sure if there is even any way to gauge that. I just Googled 'UK vitamin deficiency' - I don't know if this helps - http://www.gpnotebook.co.uk/simplepage. ... -200933361 I suspect that that is true of not just vitamin D too. Vitamin D deficiency does seem to be a...

how much fat is too much fat???

Well I am just over a week more experienced than you! Low carb on its own didn't work nearly as well as LC/HF. I have upped the fats by using coconut oil - I actually quite like it and use it as a spread or eat it off the spoon. I love butter so I will slather it on a couple of rice cakes, or...

    Low Carb = no energy!

Are you getting enough protein and fats? If your body has been used to getting its energy from carbs then it obviously needs to get them from somewhere else. You can't take the carbs away and not replace them with another fuel source. That's where I went wrong for years. In upping my fat...

    Chocolate craving has gone!

Isn't that amazing. I have tightened up on my carb intake and raised my fat intake and within a week my lifelong craving for chocolate has gone! Makes me think that all these years, it wasn't the actual chocolate my body wanted but the fat content! Not only that but I no longer need to nibble...

    'New' diet recommends low-carb, high-fat......

Actually, the link at the top was the second of two articles - I didn't realise that when I posted it - it was the other article that mentioned the low-carb and higher-fat regime and it is that one I read in the paper and have quoted from above. I picked up the wrong one when I searched for it...

    'New' diet recommends low-carb, high-fat......

Well, it may be the way you eat, but it is not necessarily the way a lot of people eat. Many are so hung up on the low fat theory that they are frightened to touch it, but when they do, they invariably get it in with high-carb foods, like chips. Most of the recipes they featured had some kind...

    'New' diet recommends low-carb, high-fat......

Wasn't it just. As I have put on my other links to this article, they always think they are the only ones who have come up with it! Anyway, I just thought it was interesting that someone else is now realising the benefit of low-carb and high-fat. I'm interested to know what other protocols...

    Disconcerting initial changes

Really???? I thought that was indicative that there is not enough bile. I will have to do some research on that!!! Who were you taught that by?

    Disconcerting initial changes

Well, I have upped my fat intake now for about a week, was already pretty low-carb but have tightened up on that too, had a day with a rather unpleasant metallic taste which went after I 'eliminated' for Wales, but now I am experiencing some paler, floaty and fatty stools which may be indicative...

    Metallic taste in mouth

Hi Suzi. No, that's one thing it definitely ain't! Interestingly, I 'eliminated' for England (or Wales!) last night, am three pounds lighter this morning and the taste is much improved, so maybe I was right about the detox thing!

    Metallic taste in mouth

Occasionally, but not for a while now, and certainly not yesterday. It's still there a bit tonight. I will just see what happens over the next few days - it might be a detox thing.

    Metallic taste in mouth

Thanks Karen. I actually drank a bit more than usual yesterday and half wondered if it was that, but I normally don't drink much more than a litre and a half or so a day so I am sure the extra half litre or so couldn't have been the problem, but who knows, I will just keep an eye on it and see...
