    Hi i'm NiamhT111

I have been diabetic for a long time and am still learning! My first hypo about 35 years ago was in 'solo' supermarket and my mum just kept giving me more glucose tablets as we didn't know how long it would take!! I was sat 7 years old on one of those steps they used to use in supermarkets to...

    Pre lunch testing

~Did you have different activity levels? The slightest thing can make the biggest difference, but in fact the results are not a major difference. Stress, exercise, even hot weather can make a difference, it is not just simply doing the same thing everyday=the same result, Don't worry too much it...

    Hi. Type1.

Hi! I'm not a huge talker about myself either and have mostly read on this site rather than post (I'm getting better at it!) I've found some great information here! Much more than my diabetes team has ever been able to offer! I have found sometimes the answers to simple problems are staring me...

How do you record your diabetes?

I would like to add, although I don't always record, especially at busy times but some kind of record is actually invaluable and enables us to look back and highlight trends.

How do you record your diabetes?

As above post, I do generally like a testing book!! I have tried apps and can't be bothered to imput, but an app seemed to require more energy and I would forget, great in the beginning when it is new but after a while I would forget and have to catch up so to speak, a testing book is so easy...

This is interesting as I loved this testing book the most!! I even photocopied the pages to use again as it seemed to disappear (to my clinic anyway!) I should of rung the number, didn't occur to meo_O

    Final Written Warning from work

I don't understand why you had written warnings for being off sick?? This is unacceptable! Regardless of diabetes! Is there more to it than that? I sympathise with you! It sounds an awful experience that you are going through and as others have said I would certainly seek legal advise with this...

    Remember when ?

Ha ha!! No I was fortunate to have escaped such a book! Just as well really as I was a bit of a Tom Boy as a child, would have given me ideas!!

Noctura Sleep mask for diabetic retinopathy

I read your post with great interest! I have read about these masks a while ago and it all seems positive. I would have jumped at the chance to trial also but they were not trialled anywhere near me. Do you know how others have responded? It is refreshing to hear of a non invasive treatment for...

    Remember when ?

I still have this meter!! I kept it all these years for nostalgia! I'm sure even then it cost more than £30, my mum saved for months to get me one!!

    Are diabetics ...

When I was a teenager my mum would vouch that I was a complete ***** when my I went hypo, but mums are melodramatic (!?!) right?! ( I don't doubt it by the way) since adulthood, I can cope with my swings and as others have said I feel I am a fairly laid back person! I have non diabetic friends...

Metformin could reduce cholesterol levels, research suggests

This is fascinating and thank you for posting it! I am actually a type 1 diabetic of 34 years and have been down the statin route! It has taken me several attempt to tolerate metformin but the more I read the more I am tying to take it! It is having good effects on my insulin levels that I take...

    Type 1 diabetes

You post is really heart felt and touched me! You sound quiet desperate and despairing! The best thing you could of done was to post on here where others understand you! :) What happened with your grandfather is probably playing out like a horror story for you! This probably won't happen to you...

Type 1 Doubt about treat Dawn phenomenon or Somogyi effect

I am on Humalin I which I take at bedtime and typically it does have a peak action at around 2-4am and I have spent years getting over night crashes and then the highs in the morning! I have conquered it now as I split my long acting but it has taken a long time of trial and error! I am not sure...

    Relationships

I would also agree with some of the previous posters and this is not necessarily about your diabetes, but you have had her support over the last couple of years with your diagnosis so it is a double blow! I also agree that you are probably caught in the moment so don't be rash! I think 'talking'...

    Type 1 struggling

I was diagnosed in childhood and didn't mind my condition then...teenage and early adult life was a different matter!! You are not alone, there are plenty of people on here that will relate to you! I did EVERYTHING my mates did regardless!! I paid the price on many occasions but was lucky enough...
