    Broccoli & Cauliflower?

I second this, cauli and Broccoli can and should be a staple part of every type 2s daily diet.... Never a day passes where I don't consume and often more than I should... Low carb, low gi, loaded with nutrients and delicous drowned in butter.

Prediabetes Too much weight loss on LCHF?

Personally, I pay little attention to BMI these days, mine is currently 21.5 What is more relevant to me is body fat. I'm currently 16.5% fat and want to gain to around 20% and then hold steady. As a guy in his early fifties I'm told around 20% would be ideal for optimum health, so that's what...

Prediabetes Too much weight loss on LCHF?

130lbs at five feet five is 21.6 BMI... Pretty much ideal wieght I'd day. Increase fat to maintain or add more bulk. I've managed 4lb gain in 2 weeks by adding low carb high fat smoothie to my diet daily.

    Type 1 Ramipril 2.5mg

Ramipril is actually proactively prescribed to diabetics at risk of kidney disease. It has also been proven to offer protection against the onset of T2 in those at risk. If you can tolerate it, it's worth sticking with it, one of the safest and oldest ace inhibitors. I've taken it for 20...

14mth old daughter diagnosed a week ago. Help....

On the other hand, T2 is often very much triggered by an addiction to sugar and carbs.... If an element of addiction wasn't possible, cravings wouldn't happen. Ultimately, whatever works for each and every individual is the sensible approach.

Low GI large cob , at LIDL

Lidl protein rolls saved me, they really did.... Giving up spuds was tough too, cauliflower came to the rescue though... Amazing how taste changes, I have no desire for wholemeal bread or potato any more.

    BG to HbA1c conversion

@Bluetit1802 If you're above the standard range it must have some bearing... Makes sense that the formulae used is calculated against blood that sits mid range of the markers the matter. I'd be gutted as you clearly have incredibly good control otherwise.

    BG to HbA1c conversion

If I'm interpreting this correctly, it would seem that your red cell life must be a lot longer than 3 months... There can be no other explanation.

    Low-carb cafés in Newcastle

Agreed, many a greasy spoon has no issue throwing together bacon, eggs and shrooms for you and giving you extra portions as you've swerved the bread and beans. It isn't uncommon for most cafes to understand low carb in a world where one in three is diabetic or Prediabetic.

    BG to HbA1c conversion

In my personal experience, it required around 15 readings a day to provide an accurate representation. I too have little variation though, at most 1 mmol/L at one hour post prandial and back at baseline around 2 hours when low carbing. That said, there are many people here whose a1c matched...

    BG to HbA1c conversion

Yes mate, unless you have a seriously dodgy meter, which is unlikely, it seems you've well and truly got it under control. In your shoes I'd be hassling the surgery to have the review brought forward to confirm. Cured is debatable, but I know you said you intend to continue LC for life so in...

    BG to HbA1c conversion

Yes, you're not wrong.... Testing several times a day continuously is very close though when calculated. In my case and in many others it was spot on. The only real variation could occur if your red cell life differs from what they consider the norm.

    BG to HbA1c conversion

Yes, all meters sold in UK now convert to plasma equivalent though, they do not read capillary. So assuming you have a current meter that is converting to plasma equivalent, you can use the average to calculate a1c.

    BG to HbA1c conversion

@AM1874 my meter readings were obtained using Tee2, it proved more accurate and consistent than my accucheck mobile which clearly was reading a bit low. All you need is an average of ALL readings for the past 90 days, the tee2 does this for you in the meter memory and then convert to hba1c...

    BG to HbA1c conversion

If your readings are consistent and your meter is reasonably accurate, then the total average is pretty much spot on in most instances. I calculated 5.3 a1c over 90 days from my meter readings, 5.3 is what the result was just yesterday.
