Hi I’m julieclarke I’ve joined to find out more about T2 diabetes

Hello Julie, I like tuna too. I can’t eat it with bread though because bread makes my blood sugar rise. I mix it with mayonnaise, spring onions, cucumber and tomato and have it with coleslaw and grated cheese. Have you been diabetic long? For me it’s 14 years now.

    Vaccines

I’ve been using them for three years now. After a while it just becomes routine.

    Vaccines

Yes you can. I can only have vaccines, needle sticks, libre on one arm and last year I had Covid and flu at the same time in the same arm as my libre. They just have to work round the position on the libre.

    New to diabetes

It’s always worth asking your doctor or diabetic nurse but unfortunately many will only prescribe a kit and strips if you are on medication which can cause hypos.

    Weight loss injections & Retinopathy

I was told I couldn’t have Mounjaro because I have mild background retinopathy. You really need to discuss with your diabetic team and ophthalmologist whether there could be any connection with your macular oedema. I would certainly do that before considering stopping the treatment.

    Glimepiride

I agree best to monitor your blood sugar and talk to your GP or diabetic nurse if you are worried. Have you been to,d to test before you drive? You shouldn’t start to drive if you are below 5. I find fruit pastilles easy to catty, and a couple of individually wrapped biscuits.

Type 2 with Insulin. Poll. How many forum users come within this category ?

Just another thought, have you ever been tested to make sure you are not type 1 or LADA?

Type 2 with Insulin. Poll. How many forum users come within this category ?

Hi, I can’t be much help here I’m afraid as I put on 2 stone in 6 months when I went on insulin. Your HBa1c does indicate the diabetes is under control. Do you use a libre? Covid does do strange things to us, is it possible you were eating less when you felt ill? Have you spoken to your GP...

Type 2 with Insulin. Poll. How many forum users come within this category ?

I’ve edited it for you, hopefully it helps. On any specific threads in the future where you have asked for help from type 2s on insulin but a type 1 replies with what you think is an irrelevant/misleading answer please click the report button at the bottom of their post. A box will appear for...

    Freestyle libre 2

It’s always worth a try. I would describe the error as low readings which don’t match a fingerprick test and see what they say. Are you saying the alarms are due to where it’s placed? I.e. pressure lying on it overnight! That can be a real pain. One option if you are sure your BS is fine is to...

    Freestyle libre 2

I must admit it’s frustrating when a sensor fails, especially if you are self funding as I do. If you contact Abbott they will send you a replacement. Hers a link to their online form. https://www.freestyle.abbott/uk-en/support/sensor-support-form.html Hang on to the old sensor as sometimes...

Why is there virtually ZERO interest by supermarkets in UK in selling LOW CARB foods?

I think both Sainsburys and waitrose stopped selling their lower carb bread this year. Maybe shows there isn’t enough demand for it. Holland and Barrett sell a flax one I like but it’s more like a German bread. Perhaps the basic problem is that the NHS still doesn’t widely promote a low carb...

Type 2 with Insulin. Poll. How many forum users come within this category ?

Would you like me to try and edit the poll for you? I’m type 2 on one insulin (lantus) at night and also on Sitagliptin, Empaglifloxin and Gliclazide.

    Intermittent Fasting

No problem at all with you posting in this thread or any other thread if it’s on topic, or with you starting a new post as I suggested.

    Intermittent Fasting

Can I gently remind people that the original post is about the benefits or otherwise of intermittent fasting and not the merits of pump v MDI. Please could we keep the posts on topic. Of course you are welcome to start your own post about the merits of pumps v mdi. Thankyou

    Type 2 stress levels

We are all different, but it is very common for stress to affect blood sugar levels. Are you having problems with your blood sugar control?

Just be aware there is one lady posting who has been diabetic for some time with serious problems. But there are others whose situation is closer to yours.

    Advanced PDR Diagnosis questions, etc

Hi it may take a while for all members to see your post as not everyone logs on regularly. In the meantime perhaps you could have a look around this part of the forum where there are other posts relating to retinopathy.

    Any idea whats going on?

Have you ever tried a libre? If not you should be able to get a free trial which would give you 15 days of information. Yes, a bad meal the night before could do that to me, and looking at my libre I would have been even higher overnight.

    Any idea whats going on?

Hi, When you say you had your diabetes under control with diet and exercise what diet were you following? Is it possible that without realising you are eating more carbs than before? Maybe just slightly bigger portions? Rice (of any type/colour) would certainly have that effect on me, as does...
