    I am a Heartbroken New

Hi Shad. I was diagnosed type 1 a month ago. I am on my own too, in a new city. I didn't sleep much the first few nights. Are you on a combination of long acting, and rapid insulin? Most important thing for me dealing with overnight was: 1) make sure long acting insulin isn't bringing down...

    Need honest advice

Heat damage is possible, but that would make insulin less effective, not more - as the molecules break down - AFAIK - please do confirm this with someone smarter than I.

    Someone to talk to

Totally get where you're coming from! I got diagnosed with type 1 + pernicious anemia, right after a near death experience in the hospital ICU for kidney problems... now they're lining me up for more tests because they think they found lumps under my tongue and in my pancreas on a scan. My...

    Life with Libre

Not sure what they'd say, but may be worth telling Abbott about the problem sensors - I'm sure they'd be interested in getting hold of it (+ an export of your meter readings). They might even replace it.

feedback on T1D equipment case design

Nice idea. I like the look of it. Agreed, a used sharps holder would be nice when there's no disposal option. Personally, I dream of something that is a bit more compact. 2xpens, monitor, lancing device, storage for needles (used), and lancets/new needles/strips. I can almost fit that in my...

    Blurry vision

I had it terrible in the days around/before when I was diagnosed as t1, couldnt read things I'd been easily able to read just half a day earlier. Worst was at night after going out eating with family. The worst part is I was in hospital (for other non-diabetic issues) - I told the nurse and...

    Dumb Libre question...

Yes good idea! I almost caught it on a car door last night

    Dumb Libre question...

Thanks! Would you recommend taping it? I've just had it attached by its own glue so far. I don't swim or do any harsh exercise that makes me sweat a lot (plus it's coming into winter down here).

    Constipation

Can I ask, have you noticed any slow down in how food affects your blood sugar (if you test it)? It seems like when I'm very backed up, I don't peak until 3-4hrs after a meal, which means my insulin comes on too quickly.

    Shower with Freestyle Libre sensor

Have only showered once with it so far - I am usually concerned about showering with such things - not so much for the electronics but the hole in my skin. But I managed to avoid that anxiety... I forgot I was wearing it.[emoji14] ...aaand forgot about it again this morning haha.

    Life with Libre

Just stumbled upon this thread... so much great info! Put my first sensor in yesterday morning. Jumped when the applicator clicked (after sitting nervously with it softly pressed up to my arm for what seemed like eternity!). Thought my nervous reaction meant I'd pulled away and stuffed it up...

    Dumb Libre question...

Got mine yesterday, put my first sensor on.. thought I'd stuffed up the application and it hadn't attached to me, but looked at my arm and there it was! Anyway, I didn't think of this until today... How do I remove the sensor? >_< PS - I'm in love already! Was only going to do it for a few...

Use of pump temporarily whilst in hospital

I'm guessing it varies a lot. You always have the option to refuse a treatment. That said, a surgeon have the option to say they won't do it. When I was in hospital I administered my own, but they hung onto the pens, tested me, and knew what doses I was on. I was newly diagnosed while in...

Type 1 Blood sugar testing- alternatives?

That's annoying! Have you tried a different app capable of reading the sensor, like Glimp?

Insulin / Carb / Blood glucose ratio

So, just working out ratios and had a question: If 1u handles 10g carb, and 1u corrects blood sugar by 2mmol/L - does this mean 10g carb should increase blood sugar by 2mmol/L? Or is the relationship not that straightforward?

    Tingling

One cause is lack of B vitamins. Not sure what else causes this.

    5mm versus 4mm pen needles

It probably depends on your body - fat, vascular system, nerves etc. Personally I have tried 6mm and 4mm. 6 gave me blood often, 4 have had no problems. I'm pretty lean at the moment though. Not sure if I actually have to, but I always pinch up fat because it feels like there's only about 5mm...

Type 1 Blood sugar testing- alternatives?

I have only been diagnosed for about a month or so, but I'm suffering the same problem. I got a Libre yesterday, and while I don't trust it much for important readings (low/dropping fast), I've noticed I'm doing less finger pricks if I see I'm steady or going up from the sensor. At first it...

How do you get on with Lantus?

I split my lantus 12/12 and take it with my breakfast/dinner novorapid (approx 730 am & pm). It's been the one thing that works well for me so far. Without any other BG influencing factors, I'm pretty flat

Prediabetes Levels of sodium, potassium, magnesium with LCHF

I'll chime in with another recommendation to get blood tests before and (regularly) after messing with supplements. Potassium is the one I know most about - too much or too little can cause serious problems. I recently spent some time in the kidney ward at hospital, due mainly to potassium...
