Medication that effects liver glucose release?

So, alcohol causes BG to drop, as I understand, because it prevents the liver releasing glucose. Do other drugs that put particular strain on the liver also do this? In other words: Is it because the liver is "busy"/under strain, regardless of the cause? OR is it a specific chemical pathway...

Do you drive? If so, how much?

Just in terms of the "considering not driving" thing.. maybe I should explain - I live in the inner city. Having a car is already a pain in the bum - on street parking, have to pay for a permit and half the time have to park 3 blocks from home anyway, toll roads, traffic, extortionate mechanics...

    Variability in insulin production

Not sure what you mean about being on a fixed dose and carb counting? - I have to count how many grams I eat to match my dose Doesn't seem like I'll need to worry about the half units - BG is back to being it's usual higher numbers. This dip has made me wary though.. if things change again...

    Hand troubles

My first thought is B vitamins, not sure what else it could be though as that's the only one I have experienced.

More than usual escaping when the needle comes out?

Thanks.. yeah I think that might be what happened. Have had ridiculously high bgl today. Very annoying as I've been trying to get a good reliable food/insulin diary going on to calculate a personal ratio next time I see the D Team... but every day some weirdness seems to disrupt things!

    Variability in insulin production

I started on a fixed insulin dose out of hospital, so had to eat according to the dose, rather than dose to what I wanted to eat. I've since moved to a little bit of variation, but mainly in terms of reducing insulin when not needed. I was feeling confident enough to give myself extra when my...

More than usual escaping when the needle comes out?

So I just pulled out a pen needle, and quite a bit of insulin seemed to come back - it kind of squirted back rather than the usual tiny bead that I get. I'm not sure if it was actually more volume or just squirted at high pressure.. it certainly seemed like more! Does this happen? I have a lot...

    Dark Stool

Did you change your diet? I've had a lot of gut issues - the "normal" range of poo is extraordinary. Blood in the stool causing colour change usually is very close to black. Think darker brown than coffee beans. Still, if worried I'd ask a doctor. Small slow blood loss is no joke (says the guy...

    Variability in insulin production

Thanks, yeah I spoke to my endo today about it too - think it's just my pancreas in its last gasps. There wasn't any exercise/unknown food/fat/weirdness to my routine. Sorry should've been more specific. I do count. My carb intake has been through the roof these days where I had less insulin...

    Variability in insulin production

So being newly type 1 I expected some variability, but this has caught me off guard. I went from taking approx 34u bolus (12/12/10) and more restricted carb intake, just trying to keep my bgl steady; to the next day taking 22u (8/8/6), eating more than I usually would, and still going low after...

    Research for a school project.

Likewise - 0 years for me. Newly diagnosed people mightn't seem relevant, but, for example - some people would've had some of these issues before they were diabetic - which has to figure into any data analysis done

Do you drive? If so, how much?

Thanks. Yes I'm in Australia. Not sure about elsewhere but here you must be above 5 or else accident/injury insurance won't cover you (and more worryingly, the other people's stuff.. My car is worth nothing, but if I hit something nice I'd be paying for it for decades!). Pretty sure it is a...

    Basic BGL/Hypo/Hyper Questions

Hey guys thanks.. yes I didn't mean to give the impression I thought mild lows were nothing serious.. If anything my problem is over-treating - if I've just gotten an unexpected low reading, I don't feel confident enough to say whether I've bottomed out or will keep dropping. I'm hoping when I...

    Basic BGL/Hypo/Hyper Questions

A few things nobody has ever mentioned to me, despite having seen endo, nurses, dietitians, educators and reading extensively since being diagnosed... (I'm asking from a type1 perspective but I guess they're not limited to just that.) Also preemptively, thanks to everyone who keeps answering my...

    Stomach problems & Digestion

Hi guys, I'm finding certain food types are giving me delayed BGL spikes (4hr instead of 2). Haven't figured out which yet, as I'm new, but I'm honing in on it I think. The only things I'm certain work in time with my bolus are the simple carbs/sugars - rice, white bread, lollies, soft drinks...

    Water attention?

I get terrible swollen ankles/feet sometimes. Could be sodium/potassium related, could be vascular... could be meds if you take anything else, all sorts of things. it's worth checking out. I was just in ICU for kidney/protein/potassium problems among other things (not diabetes related)... after...

    LADA vs. Type 1?

Is there anything different about LADA other than the age of diagnosis? Forgive me for the basic question, I've heard/seen next to nothing about LADA since I was diagnosed as T1 and I've been doing pretty much nothing but read since finding out! I'm 30.. they say LADA is for over 30s, and they...

    New diagnosis...type 1

Not exactly 40, but I'm 30 and was just diagnosed. Similar levels of weight loss, no ketone issue though. I'd be interested if you think anything going on in your life may have "triggered" your diabetes. I/my specialists (yep, multiple) are currently working on the theory that an intense stress...

    Drink Hypo Treatment

Got to try my glucose gel for real today. Verdict: works great, but, yuuucckhhhcccchhh!! Supposedly was 'tropical fruit' flavoured.. tastes just like 'berry' cough syrup does - neither like berries or tropical - and highly likely to make me vomit if I had felt any worse than I did already.

Do you drive? If so, how much?

Just wondering since I started driving again (just spent 6wks in hospital, the last few days being the newly acquired t1). Around here your bgl must be above 5 to be allowed to. Which sucks because 4 is supposedly normal. Anyway, had my first low reading when wanting to drive. I was out...
