What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

Ian - how are your average readings over the course of the day. 5.9 in isolation is equivalent Hba1C of 36 so normal. Personally I’m sticking with the Metformin for now albeit low dose. It’s not causing me any problems and is probably helping - would like to get off meds but playing the long...

Whereas in fact the very worst swearword is Kintyre. I very rarely use that one myself

    Hi! Depression & Diabetes...

Good to hear. Tomorrow hopefully will be better. Diagnosis is unsettling, emotional and anxious time for everyone, whatever your medical history. But it is also the first step on the road to controlling the condition and having one fewer things to worry about. There will be some bumps in the...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

@Bubbsie , @DJC3 @OrsonKartt - when I find myself thinking unprintable thoughts but needing to print them I find it helps to exchange the bad words with place names in Scotland. On which subject Bubbsie it sound like your course was a bit Falkirk Stenhousmuir and the teacher was a bit of a...

    Hi! Depression & Diabetes...

CJ - really well done for finding the courage to come to the forum and start a chat. You are in a safe place here. Most people on this site are really nice and helpful (and just ignore anyone that isn't). You can ask your GP for a copy of your results. Ask for your Hba1c score - it will give...

    Type 2 High Blood Sugar

Hello - so you are newly diagnosed and this all probably seems very confusing. Tagging @daisy1 who can provide some welcome info for new joiners. You've come to the right place and there is lots of support available here. Ask your doctor for a print out of your results - the Hba1c score is what...

    Freaking Out A Little.

Make yourself a promise that for the next 30 days you will test before and after every meal, write down what you ate and the test results and will not overreact to those individual results. Then after a month review the entire data set and think about your plan from there. I recommend (if you...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

In addition to my 5.1 (which I’m happy with) it is weekly weigh in day. This week I have lost zero weight. No gain no loss. I’m ok with this. I still have a bit to lose but in the last week I’ve been focusing on upping the exercise regime a bit. The plan is still working so happy enough. Later...

This has also got me thinking.... Is someone who sells diabetes medication solely to the Church of the Latter Day Saints known as a “Mormon Metformin Monger” ? (Just a little joke - no offence intended)

You did the right thing sharing it because it is very good. Thank you. I will recommend it to others outside of this forum. He also saves the Mormon stuff to the end so you can switch off then if it’s not your cup of tea.

    Newly Diagnosed

I don’t want to confuse you further but you don’t have to lay off fruit altogether- just be aware what you are eating, it’s carb content and portion control. When you start testing regularly you’ll find out what you react to and what’s ok. A few berries with some cream or full fat yogurt is a...

I think the above little discussion highlights the fact that the religious background to the lecture is a little distracting (whatever your faith), which is a shame because the substance of the first 30 minutes is compelling and brilliantly delivered.

    Telling People You're Diabetic

I didn’t tell anyone at first. I was too emotional. Now I’m 2 stone lighter and on the road to successful management I tell most people. Not so it defines me but so maybe I can help change attitudes. Before I got T2, I have never heard anyone say out loud that they had it.

    Newly Diagnosed

Hello. First things first - all of the best people were born in 1973. Others may disagree but they are wrong. So you are already in one exclusive club, you may as well join another. Lots of good practical advice already posted but I will sum up my (so far so good) approach to T2 as - go low carb...

    Hi

Press reset and go again. You can do this. Keep coming back. Ask for support and help. Are you able to pinpoint where and why you fell off the rails- good for you to know the triggers so you can develop coping strategies to deal with / avoid them.

The Plagues Of Prosperity. Dr. Benjamin Bikman.

Very good speaker. My weight, FBG and Hba1C are all going in right direction but I know I am still insulin resistant- I can almost feel it when I run. I struggle for athletic rhythm and strength I had 2 or 3 years ago. I know this will take longer to fix and the prof is right to talk about...
