    Weighing every day is a waste of time as your weight can vary by a few pounds. This can happen due to hormonal changes etc.

    Does your GP know you are required by the DVLA to test your bg every 2 hours while driving. This alone can cause the use of more than 4 test strips a day.

    Metformin is fine. I have never had any problems with it.

    Dvla/dvsa lisences

    You must be on insulin as if treated by pills or diet there is no requirement to tell the dvla or to test the blood every 2 hours. But stopping for 2 minutes, at most, every 2 hours when driving, does no seem that much of an inconvenience to me. I have to do this myself.

    I am in the UK & type 2 on insulin and pills. As soon as you are diagnosed diabetic you fill in a form in which your doctor confirms you are diabetic and all prescriptions are free from that point on. Type 2’s on diet & pills sometimes get bg meters but not alway. I didn’t have a meter for years...

    1st week a diabetic

    I was told to test 4 times a day. I test before every meal & just before I go to bed. So if you take the sugary medication just after you test, 3-4 hours later when you test again just before your next meal your blood glucose may be ok as sugar raises blood glucose quickly & disappears quickly,

    Which meter should I get?

    According to my diabetic nurse accu-check are giving away free meters provided you get it from your doctors. I have a spare meter, no strips or prickers, if you want it. It is an acc-check meter.

    Type 2 - NHS?

    You usually get diabetic bloods analysed every 3 months which changes to every 6 months after everything has settled down usually with a specialist diabetic nurse at your doctors . You should have a diabetic review once a year with the nurse where your treatments are discussed and feet etc are...
