    Extended my extended fast.

I noticed GLP-1 agonists are being prescribed in NZ (notoriously conservative!) for weightloss now..in cases where other risk factors have been determined. Bariatric doctors in the US are kicking and screaming to be able to get their patients onto them to avoid surgery and head off diabetes. For...

    Extended my extended fast.

Good idea to call and have reassurance. Hopefully your doc is reasonably 'low-carb literate' so they can put your experience in context. Haha yes well the advice on the net is often written by people expecting you to be following a 1990's (sponsored by Big Wheat) food pyramid diet or similar. If...

    Extended my extended fast.

Posting food intake a day after breaking my fast here: Coffee. Beef bone broth. Celeriac soup x 2 mugs. (Soup was thinned out 50/50 with more of the bone broth). This was so good!! Matcha tea. Lotsa water. :) *Looking forward to some real food! Just got to take it easy a bit while the liver...

    Extended my extended fast.

Ketones should rise nicely to compensate when your blood sugar drops, so long as the blood glucose drop has occured as a result of carb restriction. There is another more worrying condition called ketoacidosis. I'm not sure what leads to that..I think it may apply more to type 1's? I am only...

    Extended my extended fast.

It's mindset and experience partially. I've been intermittent fasting (conservatively) for years and when the kids were younger, eating more often and dependent on me for preparing everything there were indeed times a piece of cheese or whatever would be in my mouth before I remembered I was...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Intially assumed you'd had a dinner guest then while they turned away for a moment to admire some artwork..or a lampshade or something, you saw your chance and took it. Twice. :D

    Extended my extended fast.

Just an update for November 11th (I'm from the future, if you're in the UK). My numbers this morning were spectacular. Glucose 3.2, the red light/alarm went off, and Ketones 5.3. GKI of 0.6. I wish it was easier to attain that ratio. I was able to for a while on a carnivore type diet but my...

    Extended my extended fast.

Hi Pipp, weightloss wasn't the reason I was fasting. 3 kg is only a 'best guess' because I only thought to weigh myself on day 4, and then weighed again on day 10. Prior to that it was at least a month before I'd got on the scales. I expect other people might lose a lot more weight than I did...

    Extended my extended fast.

Hi Ellie, actually I have 11 or 12 kg I could lose to be the weight I was before I had children, and I lost around 3 kg on my fast. My metabolism is slow (due to illness and relatively low activity). Other people would likely lose a good bit more than that! I expect I will put some of that...

    Yes please! :)

    Extended my extended fast.

I completed a ten day fast. *Phew*. I was aiming for five days but I felt so well on days four and five I just kept going...and assessed things day by day. I felt fatigued on day 3 which is typical for me with the liver emtying it's glycogen stores and ketones needing to come more robustly to...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

So sorry about your lovely kitty. They're family and it's hard when they're not there anymore.

New here, feeling so stressed and confused

Intermittent fasting (a minimum of 12 hours overnight) is supposed to help preserve pancreatic beta cells and there is some initial research showing periodic fasting (longer occasional fasts) may actually regenerate them, so likely there are things you can do if you can make it fit your...

Simple "soleus push-up" exercise may lower blood glucose.

2 - 3 hours was to try to cover the full postprandial period after participants ingested 75 g glucose, but you can see there was a bit of effect on glucose from 15 minutes. I think the study showed a lowering effect of 8 - 9 mg/dl - so roughly .5 mmol/L - at the 15 minute mark. I think the...

    Christmas Treats?

I find any chocolate less than about 70% cocoa burns my throat with the sweetness. I stick with 85%, which my kids say tastes just like vegemite!! :woot:. I guess after a time on low carb (especially if you don't use artificial sweeteners?) the taste buds just adjust.

    Christmas Treats?

Do you chill the potatoes between their two cookings? If so that could reduce their glycemic impact a bit. x I'm with you on the cheese and nuts. Nom nom. I've just ordered some roasted macadamia 'butter' to use in a few home made treats too.

    I'm "normal"

Congratulations!!!!! You've done such great work! Enjoy all the benefits :D and there are likely many more...like improved immunity etc.

Simple "soleus push-up" exercise may lower blood glucose.

Below is a short video on some recent research out of the University of Houston, and before that a link to the paper they published. I've been doing the soleus push ups under the dinner table. If anyone decides to try it and notices anything interesting with their blood glucose numbers make...

    Christmas Treats?

I love all your ideas and I was literally thinking this morning about how to make my stuffing lower carb. Thanks for the ground almonds suggestion. :)
