    T2D and Shingles

Welcome to the forum @StrugglingSuzy . Sorry to hear you are dealing with repeated Shingles. That’s awful. Your blood sugars are up because when your body is stressed, as it would be fighting an infection, then it releases cortisol. Cortisol increases blood sugar. Your blood sugars should...

    Could this be type 2?

Sometimes @Gardengnome you can do everything right and still it bites you. In all honesty I think as we get older our pancreas’ are not as efficient at clearing out the blood sugar as they once were. Plus as we get older we lose muscle mass too. Muscles utilize a lot of blood glucose so that may...

    Newly Diagnosed - Help Required

No! Please don’t feel it’s your fault. Some people are more sensitive to rising insulin resistance than others. Plus, very likely you have a pancreas that simply cannot produce enough insulin to counter your insulin insensitivity. It doesn't help when you read on the internet that you have...

Low Carb, fat free, and very low protein diets

I am lactose intolerant. I got diagnosed as an adult. My Gastro specialist gave me the breath test, which showed I was lactose intolerant. Milk products, iced cream etc in particular caused serious symptoms. I could consume butter and hard cheeses as @Antje77 states. Some suggested I try...

    Newly Diagnosed - Help Required

Hi there @ForMyGirls, welcome to the forum :) Having gestational diabetes does put you at risk for T2 diabetes. Not everyone who has gestational diabetes goes onto develop T2, but it does put you at risk. Gestational diabetes happens because some women develop what is called insulin resistance...

    Metformin and muscle pain

I have that @Janpan! If you have arthritis in your lumbar spine , which is very common, those bulging discs can put pressure on your nerves affective your thigh muscles. I believe it’s due to stenosis. Mine is very noticeable going up stairs. I’m like an old woman going upstairs. I can get...

CGM is consistently showing a hypo - broke?

That looks like a faulty sensor @spudstood . Did you x check with a fingerprick ? Sometimes the sensor site can become inflamed, for whatever reason and that can drive down your readings too. In my view if your blood sugars were at 3 mmol /s for so long I would think you would start to feel it...

    Type 2 Sugars

Hi there @Gabrielle95 so you are a late onset T1. May I suggest you add that you have LADA to your profile. Only because it helps members answer your questions as T1’s have different needs to T2’s as far as diet goes. I’m going to tag @Antje77. She is also LADA and I believe does a reduced carb...

    Type 1, 2 or LADA?

I’m like you, lean, fit and I don’t each junk food. I do the distance of 3 full marathons a week to keep my blood sugars in check. I do resistance training as well. I’ve always been fit, so this is my go to. I also go low, I do have unstable fasting blood sugars. Yesterday my fasting blood...

    Type 1, 2 or LADA?

Several things come to mind @George775 , the panel of tests you took: C-peptides, Ac1 and GAD tests show you are normal. Your C-Peptides are normal when seen in the context of your Ac1 test, which shows you are in the prediabetic range. Your C-Peptides show that you are not over producing...

    50 pounds

@Outlier our supermarkets are the same as in the UK. We have the cheaper ones equivalent to AldI , Lidl, Tesco and we have upmarket ones similar if not more upmarket than Waitrose where almost everything is produced locally and ethically. They are large and full of every type of food, the...

    Sugar level spike then low

When you have something carby that sends your blood sugars up, your pancreas releases bolus insulin. Sometimes the pancreas secretes a little too much of this insulin and it over shoots the need for it. The result is your blood sugars start to fall, but falls a little too much and you go low...

Dr Unwin & low carb diet special report on ITV news now

It’s great that there is media coverage. There are still some die hards talking about raised cholesterol, but Unwin said his patients are seeing reduced cholesterol. The wheels of the health service turn slowly.

    Feeling sick

Just a couple of questions @mack76 if you don’t mind me asking. Do you feel nausea when you eat, so you avoid eating and then your sugars go up ( for reasons already mentioned). Am I reading you right ? Or do you feel sick when you don’t eat?

    Weird results of OGTT

Thanks @Lamont D for explaining the graph as you see it. I’ve never had an OGTT test, but thought of you. :)

    Weird results of OGTT

@kalabati , to be honest I am not knowledgeable on OGTT tests and how that relates to blood sugars, whether your graph is normal or not. In general with everyday meals you would be looking for a graph that starts to rise soon after eating, peaks and returns to within 2 mmol/ls from the reading...

    Weird results of OGTT

Hi there @kalabati , firstly, and this is a general answer. In a healthy person one has two insulin phases. The first phase release happens very quickly after food. This first phase comes from stored insulin in the pancreas. It’s only a small reservoir and is released fairly quickly. If this...

Is it possible to have LADA/1.5 with high C peptide?

Yes, I agree @Vectian you. Certainly, when you have high titres of autoantibodies. In fact I suggested that your C-Peptide results were not that high (I believe they were around 1000 pmol/ls) given that your blood sugars were averaging 12mmol/ls back on May 30th 2024.

Type 2 Non diabetes medications which raise blood glucose levels

@Mrs_A_Wrinkly I’ve been on both Gabapentin and something similar to Lansoprizole. The Gabapentin made no difference to my blood sugars . I was in 600 mg. The Lansoprizole equivalent I was on because of GERD/ peptic ulcers, but that was a few years ago, prior to my diabetes.

    What am I?

I have something going on with my gall bladder / pancreas @Natalia D. I’ve had three episodes of, what I can only describe as really really bad upper abdominal pain going through to my back. Too tender to even touch my abdomen and a very high fever and high blood sugars. The bad Pain last 24...
