    Balance magazine - November/December

We are concerned with healthy living with diabetes for many years, whereas the Newcastle diet lends itself to the sort of randomised controlled trials (RCT) beloved by researchers & counted as 'evidence' by DUK, it is by its very nature unsustainable. Only LCHF presents itself as a sustainable...

Increased blood sugar levels after eating negatively affects people with diabetes

My serious complications - particularly crippling peripheral neuropathy, extreme tiredness, & beginning of retinopathy & reduction of kidney function - occurred with HbA1c = 6.7% That was with the NHS/DUK high starchy carb diet, which resulted in post-meal glucose = mid teens. Cutting out...

    Balance magazine - November/December

This is their email reply to me, substantially as published, with minor editing: Many thanks for your feedback. As you indicated the article in Balance was addressing fats specifically in relation to cholesterol, which is one of the three targets to reduce risks of diabetes complications. [As I...

    Balance magazine - November/December

This is my letter, published in full with minor changes. Dear Editor, I was disappointed to read the article “Chewing the Fat” as it did not address the issues. The emphasis appeared to be cholesterol control rather than blood glucose control. Is there a need for an alternative strategy...

    Balance magazine - November/December

They've published my letter criticizing the "Chewing the Fat" article. See page 52. Thanks, Editor, for publishing. I have now added scans of the offending article - see posts 15/16

Have you been told not to test your blood sugars?

If your combination of MF & diet is giving satisfactory BGs fasting, before & after meals - or even BGs below 5, then you can adjust your dose without asking. BUT keep testing & report what you are doing after say 2 weeks.

ITV TONIGHT Programme on thursday 27th October 2016 - "Can Your Diet Defeat Diabetes?"

Thanks for that. The elephant in the studio is always Diabetes UK, who are militantly opposed to fat, especially sat fat. I'm waiting for a response to my latest email on the Balance article. All I get is the 'party line' and "we'll pass your comments on to our dietitian." I consider them the...

Have you been told not to test your blood sugars?

Brilliant question, Yvonne. You've come to the right place for the answers to all your questions. Most medics are afraid to advise other than the standard NHS/Diabetes UK system that in the opinion of many is CAUSING increasing obesity & diabetes complications. BUT, of course we cannot give you...

BBC1 Wales - Fat v Carbs with Jamie Owen

The problem is the DUK pretend that restricting calories works - by contributing to weight loss, with the overriding assumption that weight loss is the primary means for BG control. The obvious point that restricting calories can only be done for a limited time before we become undernourished...

BBC1 Wales - Fat v Carbs with Jamie Owen

I normally refer to "increased fat" or "fat as it comes."

BBC1 Wales - Fat v Carbs with Jamie Owen

Maybe - BUT the "scientific evidence" presented by DUK as if it were reliable & trustworthy is anything but.

The Hidden Killer. Type 2 Diabetes.

I phoned the help line - Diabetes uk :( No positive suggestions regarding controlling BG. Over 8 years all my family & friends have learned of the benefits of LCHF. To my knowledge NO-ONE else has adopted it, though they have seen the transformation of my health. One response was - "you've...

BBC1 Wales - Fat v Carbs with Jamie Owen

Yes - that was the approach I was using with Duk - but they did not understand simple English: I wrote: "I hope I have given enough food for consideration for DUK to undertake a proper review of its dietary recommendations, & so produce a low carbohydrate diet document for issue to diabetes...

BBC1 Wales - Fat v Carbs with Jamie Owen

That is much too technical - the evidence problem is is that the only evidence the self-proclaimed "experts" at Diabetes uk recognise is what supports their opinions. I have discussed it with them in great detail, & shown them that reports they cite to prove what they say in fact come to the...

Have you been told not to test your blood sugars?

The NHS & DUK are guilty of disseminating dangerous diet dogma.

BBC1 Wales - Fat v Carbs with Jamie Owen

Yes, BUT If Diabetes UK were not so pig-headed about carbs & fat their literature would offer the option LCHF alongside the dodgy diet they recommend. In the beginning I thought they knew what they were reommending. Actually DUK know that their diet fails - their intro video illustrates how...

BBC1 Wales - Fat v Carbs with Jamie Owen

Thanks for the link. Seems there's always the same professional argument - No long term data on the safety of a LCHF diet. There are many thousands of contributors to this forum who have many years experience of LCHF - in my case 8 years & I am fit & well at 77. Previous I had followed the...

Have you been told not to test your blood sugars?

That is NOT a healthy diet for anyone - those carbs are a major course of weight gain & raised blood glucose. Clean fresh natural fats are not a problem - they are slow to digest so suppressing hunger, & provide sustained energy, without raising blood glucose. I followed the Diabetes UK diet...

Have you been told not to test your blood sugars?

BUT - what is a "sensible diet?" Certainly NOT what you were advised in the Diabetes UK booklets you were given.
