Thank you. Well, again, my total is 5.8, the Triglycerides is 1.1 mmol/L, and HDL is 1.58mmol/L, and nothing about LDL...There is some pressure from the GP to go on statins...

    Higher results than expected.

Hi, Triglycerides were 1.1 mmol/L, HDL was 1.58 mmol, and I wasnt told what LDL was... The doctor just says the 5.8 total, is too high for a diabetic and wants to put me on statins....

    Higher results than expected.

Hi, thank you for your response. Yes, occasionally I do a finger prick but not usually unless I feel the sensor is not operating properly. Sometimes a new sensor will wiggle about dramatically until it settles down....But even given what I think are frequently lower readings on the Libre, this...

    Higher results than expected.

Just received my A1c result and it is considerably higher than my Libre indicates. Libre says 5.8 (40 mmol/mol), and A1c shockingly says 47. I thought I was doing so well. Also, despite all my efforts with food and exercise my cholesterol is still 5.8 which it was a year ago. I can't believe...

Thanks, 'In Response', but I have never heard this expression, 'pre-blousing'. What does it mean?

Fasting & Improvement of Blood Sugar levels

I have read that a regimen of fasting can help to improve BG levels, or even result in someone with Diabetes (I am type 1) finding that they no longer need insulin at all..... I already go without breakfast, eating lunch usually around 12 midday, and this deals brilliantly with the Dawn...

    Queries & Mysteries

Thanks again Ert. I can see you really know what you are talking about! What then is the point of the diabetic nurses and consultants encouraging a 'target' for BG, in my case between 3.9 and 10mmoles when it is pretty obvious that if I were to eat normally, there is very little chance of...

    Queries & Mysteries

Thank you Ert. So this would seem to mean that I am overly concerned when it spikes at 30 minutes after a meal......So I am making this harder work than it needs to be? This might also indicate that my actual ratio might well be more like something like 1:10, insulin to carbs after all...?

    Queries & Mysteries

I cant quite understand the following: I am on a very low carb diet, mostly salads, with fish, chicken or eggs etc. and only need 1 unit for each meal usually, and 3.5 units each day for Long acting levemir. Yet it is clear when I have something like half a shop bought lasagne which is about 46...

5 things any newly diagnosed type 1 should know

This could be writing the above! I too was misdiagnosed as type 2, the bg skyrocketed, was rushed into hospital with ketoacidosis, and now I am on very low carb diet too. I have one unit for most meals, bolus, and 3.5 units for basal each morning. My last two A1cs were in the pre-diabetic...

    Tea raise

If I have a cup of tea - any time of day - with semi skimmed milk (and Without any sugar or sweetener), my blood glucose also goes up significantly. I think it is the milk. After all, there is the type of sugar called LACTOSE in milk....? That will be what is making your blood glucose rise...

    Insulin dose for protein/fat?

I don't take any insulin for animal protein....I was told that I didn't need any for protein or salads or vegetables. I am fairly new to this, but it seems to work okay...?

    Type 1 Diabetes/Constipation/Fibre??

Despite putting myself on a largely plant-based diet, but with animal protein as well as other proteins, I have found in recent weeks, increasing problems with constipation! I have usually thought that the main answer is increasing fibre intake, but I know that with this plant-based diet, I...

life expectancy & 8/6 units (honeymoon?)

Well Both....thank you for your responses...but I AM interested, and DO want to ask the questions! (or I wouldn't have posted the questions!)

life expectancy & 8/6 units (honeymoon?)

I have read information on this site regarding life expectancy of Type 1 Diabetes females, but not about life expectancy of those with LADA. I am 67, and have recently been diagnosed with Diabetes 1, having previously, for the last year, been diagnosed as first, pre-diabetic, then Diabetes 2...

    lancets and pens

Oh. okay. I understood that the lancets were supposed to be changed every time or they become blunted. I can see why some might use them more than once. sometimes when the prick doesnt bring forth enough blood, or hardly connects, then I also re-do with same lancet as it does seem wasteful...

    lancets and pens

That's really good if you hardly use the lancets. I am meant to be testing blood glucose four times a day. How do you manage not to have to test Rokaab? Are you on a pump?

    lancets and pens

Does anyone have any recommendations about some relatively painless lancets and matching penlets? I have been using 'CareSens 28G 0.36 mm', but they really do make my fingers sore. I have them on prescription. I went into Holland and Barrett yesterday and a fellow type 1 sufferer suggested...
