    Pregnancy and type 1

Thanks Angela, Any experiences are so welcome. I've heard stories about diabetics who have had really difficult pregnancies and others who have breezed through. I'm sorry to hear about the problems your daughter had. That must have been really difficult for you. I hope that you can try again...

    Sugar in urine

It could be - have you got some ketostix that you can use to test your urine? How are you sugar levels? If not, it could be something to do with your kidneys. Be sure to mention it when you have your next srt of blood tests. Emma

    smoking and bs

I've never smoked so I have no idea. I will say, however, that when others i know have given up smoking their appetite has got bigger. If this happens to you and you start eating more then your BS will probably rise. Good luck with it :)

Diabetic scuba divers, any practical experience

Some clubs will not allow you to train with them as you are diabetic and their insurance will not cover it. I was told that it is because of the risk of underwear hypos, which I found a little patronising but never mind! Make sure you check this out. You may need to get a note from your doctor...

just stepped on the NHS conveyer belt

That must have been a shock for you. I had to have an ovarian cyst removed about three years ago. Luckily it turned out to be benign but it was still a scary few weeks. They seen to be moving quickly which is good. I hope it isn't anything serious. Do let us know. Take care, Emma

    scars reopening

I'd get it seen to ASAP. I've never experienced anything like this so have no idea whether it's related to your diabetes. Whether it is or it isn't, you need to have it checked. Em

    help plz

As per the above post, my sugars sometimes rise if I exercise, particularly if my levels are a little higher than normal. I was diagnosed age 7. My sugars were sometimes a little unpredictable as I was growing. My doctor said it can happen if experiencing a growth spurt. Alternatively, he...

    Missed injection

Have you got another pen? Maybe the one you use for your daytime injections? If so, use that. If not, get down to the doctors today and get some syringes or a new pen. You'll probably feel quite ill today as you've missed it. Keep testing your sugars regularly x

    Pregnancy and type 1

Evening all. I've been diabetic for over 20 years and am now getting close to 30. While I'm not wanting to have kids right now, it is something that I am thinking about for a couple of years time. I've got background retinopathy but have been complications free apart from that. My diabetes is...

Carb counting questions - please read

Hi Nic, I've been diabetic for over 20 years and have followed a low carb diet for the past 13 at least. Why? Because the less carbs I eat the less insulin I need. The less insulin I need the easier it is to keep the weight off. Sure I have days when I will wolf down a pizza, but I stick to low...

Cold weather affecting Blood sugar ??

Hi, I find that I usually need less insulin in the summer months than I do in the winter - possibly due to the heat, I don't know. It could also be that your daughter is coming out of the honeymoon period and is no longer producing any insulin on her own. I'd try increasing her doses slightly...

    legal requirements

Hi, I have no idea whether there is a legal requirement. If there is I've never heard if it. Let me ask you something though - when you are at home, where do you inject? I'm assuming you don't have a designated first aid room? What about when you're out and about? Or when you were first...

    Gastric Band Surgery

Jude, you'd be better speaking to your surgeon/doctor about this. I think gastric band surgery should only ever be considered as a last resort. As other have pointed out, it's not a quick fix and the onus is still on you to eat healthily. Do you mind me asking what you eat on a typical day? Have...

I have a few newbie questions

If I'm ill then my sugars often run a little high. It honestly will get easier. You're bound to feel a bit overwhelmed at the minute, it's a lot to take in. You'll get there :)

I have a few newbie questions

Hi and welcome to the forum. It's only natural you have a lot of questions. Finding out you have diabetes is a lot to take in! Good news though - once you get your head round things it's really not that bad :) Drink wise - squash is fine, just make sure it is the no added sugar variety...

    Getting the snip

Xyzzy, that really made me laugh! Sorry, I know that probably doesn't help ;) Anyway, I'm female so haven't had this particular op... I have, however, had surgery recently so can offer some advice on the insulin. I was actually taken into hospital the night before my op and put on a sliding...

Type 1 - Slimming World or Weight Watchers

Verity, It doesn't matter which slimming club you join, your own personal motivation matters much more. The slimming clubs will vary from place to place and each person prefers a different approach. Personally, I'm a big believer in the low carb and exercise often plan. Breakfast tends to be...
