    Blood testing in the UK

Go and see your GP, all the tests will be done at your GP's from a single blood test and maybe a Urine sample. As a Diabetic you should be seen at least annually by your GP or a Nurse for these tests. If you check out your original post here you will see I gave you all the information you...

    Water etc...

I have no idea, it was 14+ years ago. I actually didn't have any symptoms either. What may be 'excessive' for one may be normal for somebody else, everybody is different. There are no set amounts. I now drink at least 2 litres a day, that's all I can tell you.

    Medication how long ?

As it is a combination of drugs, exercise and diet that is helping you get your Bg levels down it MAY be that you have to stay on them for life........nobody can tell you, circumstances will dictate what happens. As an example : I was once on 320mg Gliclazide, 2g Metformin and then went onto...

    Water etc...

Nobody here is qualified or able/allowed to tell you if you have Diabetes. Nobody knows your medical history. You say you are waiting for an appointment to see your doctor. Once you see him/her and they run tests on you, they will be able to diagnose you. If it turns out you have Diabetes...

hi, im new to the site, Q about exercise!

Angela. It is your health and you really should test, many Members use Ebay or similar to purchase strips if they cannot get them prescribed, much cheaper. I am sure there is something similar in NZ ? TBH, I wouldn't have thought an Apple was sufficient 'fuel' for ANY sort of exercise. Your...

    dla and diabeties

Without going into reams of detail here is a link to the website with information about DLA and eligibility : http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/DisabledPeo ... G_10011731 It is a complex subject and not something to get involved in unless you are prepared to wade through loads of information. I...

    Diabetes symptom or?

If you have blurred vision now and it is probably due to high Bg levels you shouldn't be thinking of getting new glasses until the levels have come down. If you do get them now and then get your Bg levels under control you will need another pair of new glasses ......... :( 7.6% HbA1c is not...

    Disability Living Allowance.

Re: Disability Lving Allowance. Peter. Whilst I sympathise in some respects....... what have you done to get your hypo awareness back ? Do you have some other condition which makes this happen ? Do you test your Bg levels before going out ? Most Diabetic's are able to avoid hypo's by...

Today's visit for Hba1c... advice awry and on the mark

Don't know what NIgel has to say about this but it is a fact that most manufacturers of Foot Products put something similar to this in the product literature : Now, whether that is to cover themselves or that there may be some interactions or contra-indications you would have to check each...

Diabetes disaster preparedness - diabetic survival kit?

This first link is from 2008 where DUK, IDF and DEC all were getting together to formulate a 'cunning plan'...... Now, I have no idea how far or if anything ever got past the 'talk' stage and action to help Diabetic's who need certain drugs was ever formulated. Might be an idea to take it up...

    Carers allowance

Bob. I bow to your knowledge about these benefits but it is a fact that as you alluded to earlier : http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTaxAnd ... G_10012529 It is other benefits of the person cared for that may be affected.....not the DLA as far as I am aware.

hi, im new to the site, Q about exercise!

Exercise is a funny thing.......it is all about balance. Not enough carbs for the intensity of the exercise and Bg levels will plummet, too much and start off at a high Bg level then levels can climb. That's why you should always test immediately before exercise, during the exercise and...

Back now......here is a link to much information about Soy etc, fair bit of reading but worth it I thnk. http://www.ahrq.gov/clinic/epcsums/soysum.htm Fairly comprehensive I think. There are many sites where Soy etc is praised to the heavens and others which deride it. I prefer to read this...
