    Do I have diabetes?

You are well below the diabetes level, which is 48 and above. Cholesterol. Firstly, the triglycerides are the baddies. The HDL are the goodies. (high density lipoprotein) The total is made up of the HDL plus the LDL plus 40% of the triglycerides. It sounds like your LDL wasn't estimated but...

    Do I have diabetes?

Well done for asking for your print out. It should be with you soon, and that may answer your questions. If you have any questions about the test results, all you have to do is ask.

    Indy51

So very sad to read this. She has often been in my thoughts. She was always there with information that has helped many of us, despite her dreadful lung condition and the struggles she had with it. Rest in peace, Indy.

    Do I have diabetes?

Did you not ask what tests you had, and what your blood glucose level was (HbA1c)? You need to ask for a printed copy of your blood test results. You can ask the receptionist, and you are entitled to these. They are important. The cholesterol of 6 appears to be the total, which is meaningless...

Are you going to get vaccinated?

I can't wait for my booster vax on Saturday this week. My first 2 were the astra zeneca ones. This will be a Pfizer. I was absolutely fine after my first 2.

    Fasting and restricted meal periods

We have always eaten late in this house. Normal time about 7pm, but we are retired and do not have to get up at the crack of dawn. My overnight fast is about 14 hours, but during my early days on this mystery tour I skipped breakfast anyway apart from a mug of either tea with a dash of milk or...

    Smoking !

Those wishing to stop, heed my experience. I used the nicotine patches, and I took them off at night after heeding warnings about nightmares. I ended up in hospital for 4 nights. They raised my heart beat and caused arrhythmia. The raised heart beats are common side effects.

Large battered Cod and mushy peas.

A lot depends on where you get the mushy peas from. Chip shops buy them in, and they often have sugar added, and in some chip shops they are a lurid green so goodness knows what is added to those. We make our own from dried marrowfat peas just like grandma did, nothing added except water.

Large battered Cod and mushy peas.

If I have a carb heavy meal, which I do sometimes, I always drop low at about 3 hours - it is sometimes in the 3's. My liver kicks in and brings me back up. I don't feel ill in any way. It is a touch of reactive hypoglycemia I believe. This happened after my home OGTT test. I had a wonderful...

I'm really concerned I've been given bad advice...

If you are borderline the only "treatment" is diet and lifestyle changes. No medication. All the nurse/GP will do is monitor you. So do not worry about missing out on treatment in the form of medication, but you must go and have the second test.

    Do I have diabetes?

Your best bet would be to ask the receptionist at your surgery (if you are in England) if you can register for test results on-line. Having them on-line means you can also look at the historic results and see which tests you have had and what the results were. It also saves you waiting for your...

    Booster vaccine

The astra zeneca vaccine is not being given to anyone as a booster jab in the UK. The only ones available are the Pfizer and Moderna. As far as I am aware we have no choice. It all depends on what has been delivered to the vaccination place that day.

    Do I have diabetes?

Hi and welcome. I am afraid you are going to have to be patient and await the results of your further blood tests. The 8.7 is a bit high, but it all depends on the time of day, what and when you last ate, how stressed you were, and whether or not you do have an infection. The diabetes...

    Seeking Medication Advice

I would do as others above suggested. Contact your GP by phone and tell him you would like to stop your medication for 3 months and then have another test. See what he says. The "no further action" comment is routine - it just means he doesn't want to see you. He most likely failed to notice you...

Study shows LC diets can improve Kidney function

Certainly I saw a very good improvement in my kidney function when I began a low carb diet, although it is difficult to say by how much because when I was diagnosed and started the LC diet I was still undergoing cancer treatment, on a drug that adversely affected the kidneys, so my eGFR was...

Study shows LC diets can improve Kidney function

@DJC3 as far as I am aware, the eGFR is estimated - that is what the "e" stands for. The preferable range is over 90 and you are not far short of that. The way this is estimated is due to change but currently it looks at age, sex and race among a host of other things. The older we get, the more...

Lowering LDL and Increasing HDL on Low Carb

I quite agree. I was merely quoting the official ranges as quoted on my lab reports apart from the trigs/HDL ratio, which never appears on my lab reports but was obtained from reliable sources as being the ideal. My post was badly worded. Your results are to be envied.
