I was micro managing my t1d on injections which was causing me to feel burnt out, I started using a pump around 8 years ago and despite initial fears in handing over control to a machine it has helped alot, I can program in different basal patterns for exercise, illness, weekends, holidays etc...

    Closed loop systems and exercise

Unfortunately no, I was using the G7 but due to the lag of around 20mins it was moving too quickly to report accurately and I started losing my vision and awareness so knew I had to get off it as quickly as possible, it shook me alot and this combined with the state of the roads and a tumble put...

    Cannula fail and possible ketones

I have only recently started to learn about pooling of insulin under the skin from another t1d group which explains my issues with insulin absorption, I use the tandem slim, ljumjev and sure t sets so steel tipped, I have to change every 2-3 days now as I have issues with painful sites due to...

Hi there, I used to have a reaction too when I first started using the Dexcom and had to use Cavilon spray to protect my skin, but found it was the medtronic sure t cannula sets which caused me more angst as site were really sore and even a few days after removal, my skin seems to bear both now...

    Cortisone knee injection, bg levels

Yes had around 3 steroid shots now and yes they do raise your BG levels, although a synthetic hormone it is another hormone to contend with which will cause insulin resistance hence the need to increase your insulin, I manage mine quite easily as using a pump but previously when on injections it...

    Cyclical changes.

I feel your pain @becca59 I was doing fantastic before Xmas, regularly over 80% TIR and this year it's been bump after bump and lucky to get over 70%, I blame bad sites for mine and stress, both have played a devil's game with my t1d management. It's good to share and speak about it even if...

i have diabetes type 1 and take 3 shots of actrapid and 1 shot of insulin each day

Hello @webaddict Sorry to hear of your situation. The starting point is to write a letter of complaint to the practice manager at your local doctor's surgery, explain that you are dependent on insulin and are not getting the support or tools you need to manage your condition and as you have...

    Grandchildren and Type 1

Hello and welcome. No other incidences of type 1 in my family or type 2. Figures I have seen have quoted a chance of between 1-9% of it being passed down to children, however haven't seen anything for further generations.

Same as @sninge They drove me mad too when I first got it but have got them all on vibrate now unless going LOW with downward arrow and the doorbell goes off on my phone now !! I don't know what I'm doing

Hi @lizcoop Diagnosis is tough - there's alot to take in and also it can take a while for your body to recover, you have been in a highly stressful situation where your body hasn't been right for a while, getting used to insulin injections can and does take time so just go easy on yourself...

Rude NHS diabetes nurse - new diagnosed with Steroid Induced Diabetes

Language in the medical world is vital to get right and I suspect as Rach said earlier that they are out of their depth and their inexperience translates to rudeness. In defence of nurses I have only ever encountered kind ones so I think it's the luck of the draw who you end up dealing with but...

Test Strip Use whilst on a CGM

Hello @MajorG Personally I use the Dexcom G7 and would only use test strips on the first day of the new sensor to check accuracy, to check a hypo or if my BG levels are moving a such a pace that the CGM doesn't catch up in time due to the time lag and I need to know where my BG levels are...

    Exercise/Exertion Question for the T1's

Hello @Ashintheuk Depends on the individual/weight/physiology, insulin on board, duration of exercise, time of day, hormones, food eaten etc etc, there are many variables to insulin dosing for exercise. As a t1d speaking from personal experience, for walks up to 30 mins in the morning no...

    Hypo Seizure

Just wanted to say, go slow be gentle on yourself, they do happen unfortunately, so takes time to come right, I see also you are a runner, it's best to just do some gentle walks to keep fitness levels up but don't push yourself for a run until you feel ready as it could zap the already low...

Switching from Dexcom 6 to Libre 2

Yes it's a compression low commonly known to cause false lows during sleep, best checked against a BG meter if you are awake to do so, I tend to position mine on the inside of the upper arm to avoid sleeping on them, glad it's gone ok, confidence will come back once you get used to it.

Switching from Dexcom 6 to Libre 2

How did it go ? I get the anxiety too when changing tech, it's the fear of the unknown, we become so used to using the tools to support our condition that changing them can be difficult to deal with so hope your ok.
