What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

Morning everyone, 7.5 for me. Not sure why unless I’m coming down with the children’s bug. Turns out my two year old has a chest infection, which explains the 40 degree fever. He now has to take calpol on a schedule (can’t have ibuprofen), his two inhalers, asthma granules, steroids and...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

I write sales pages as part of my job, I haven’t done any print adverts professionally but do say if you would like help with it, or if you think an internet sales page would be useful so you can share it online. Although I don’t know what website we could put it on! Hope that doesn’t offend...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

6.8, which I’m pretty happy with as an improvement on recent numbers (10-13 or so). Looks like I have a poorly 2 year old with a temperature of 39.5. Dosed him up with calpol and hope that works, last time his temp was this high he ended up being admitted to hospital, he has asthma as well and...

    Type 1'stars R Us

8.1 at breakfast time, so it was probably lower when I woke up but I forgot to test. I seem to have finally got my lantus dose about right at 60 units, but it’s just not lasting. Must find the email for the diabetes team at the hospital and see if they want me to change to something else.

    DAPHNE

The sessions are full days too 9-5.15, so not easy to make up hours.

    DAPHNE

Thanks everyone, if it was just a case of me being off work I would do it without question. They currently only have the one course planned for next year, although there may be more later in the year at some point. If only my mum wasn’t 200 miles away! [emoji23]

    DAPHNE

Those who have done the DAPHNE course, what did it cover and how useful was it? I’ve been offered a place on a course but it’s every Monday for about 7 weeks. I have two small children and no childcare or family nearby, if it was every day for a week I could maybe get my mum to come and stay...

    Most annoying things about Diabetes

Getting a toddler and a baby in the car, driving 25 minutes to the pharmacy, getting them out of the car and traipsing everyone in to collect prescriptions. About every two weeks. And even worse to do it all then discover they haven’t processed the request and there’s nothing to collect...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

13.1 this morning, going to have to up the lantus again I guess. What sort of dose is typical, I’m already on 55?

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

The day started off fine, mid morning I had a small piece of cake but all accounted for. Then I had a hypo right as the business meeting I was at was ending. A meeting where I had my two year old and baby with me, 45 minutes drive from home and nowhere to really hang out. So I ate more cake. It...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

21.6 this morning. It was my birthday yesterday and I may have eaten slightly too many carbs.

    Thank goodness for the forum!

Yes, when I was diagnosed in A&E I narrowly avoided DKA (ketones were 3.7) so I was put on insulin straight away. But they wanted me taking set doses per meal, with no guidance on diet other than “avoid cake.” So I was going very high at some meals (over 30, or so high the meter wouldn’t give a...

    Thank goodness for the forum!

I’ve just had a dietician appointment, having been diagnosed about 4 months ago. When I was diagnosed in A&E I was told T1, then two weeks later I saw a consultant who was very dismissive and basically felt it would be T2 based purely on my size. He did blood tests and a week later I was told by...

What do you wish people knew?

Apparently it’s “diabetes month” in October and I’m thinking a blog post, something like 10 things you should know about Type 1 Diabetes. It will be aimed at friends, family and the general public - not HCPs or people with a diagnosis. So, since I’m fairly new to this I thought I would ask you...

    Scary hypo

Yes, fairly high doses too at 1 unit per 3g carbs. I find any exercise at all sends me hypo 4 or 5 hours later, it’s the one part of carb counting I haven’t cracked. I am very much on the larger side and would like to exercise but I’m actually scared of it. This was the result of taking my...

    Feeling abandoned

I know the NHS has limited funds so I have some sympathy that they might like to do more and can’t, but I feel the same way. I was told by a specialist consultant in A&E that I had type 1, started on insulin, told I would need to see a dietician to learn about carb counting. Then I saw my...

    Scary hypo

I’ve just managed to scare myself with my lowest hypo yet - 2.4. Probably connected to exercise earlier, although I only walked for half an hour, not like I did anything strenuous. Felt ready to pass out, panicked as I’m home alone with a two year old and a baby and ate half a packet of sweets...

    Fed Up

Having one of those days where I just feel fed up. My blood sugar has been high despite me doing my best to control it, which is probably why I have a headache. The children are in grumpy moods and just want to cry/climb on me. The toddler fell asleep in the car which means he’ll probably be up...

    Baking

I love bake off but watching is hard this year! Plus it’s my birthday in a few weeks and I want cake. Please share any good low carb baking recipes, bonus points if they are also dairy and egg free although I think that’s next to impossible! I know I can google or look on Pinterest but I’m...
