Frequent urination impacting work. Awaiting results

I control my type 2 just by not eating the carbs - it is the same logic as when the sink is blocked and overflowing, you turn off the tap and let the water drain away as it can - medication bails out the sink into a bucket, works faster but the problem is still the same.

    Bread recipe change causing spikes?

I can't eat those small tomatoes as they are so sweet - they are being bred for sweetness, the developers boast about increased sugar content. Maybe try with an ordinary salad tomato before blaming the bread.

    bananas

I'm afraid that there is no 'us diabetics' - I maintain control by eating a low carb diet so have not eaten a banana for a very long time.

    Miss diagnosed

The best man at my sister's wedding, a very old friend of my brother in law was misdiagnosed as a type 1 many years ago. He lost everything - job house family and friends due to constant hypos. They used to meet regularly but there was always drama. His consultant at the hospital retired and...

Taking the shakes - so what happens if....

Since stopping using the shakes my weight has dropped over 2Kg in 8 days, I think it is. I am fairly certain that the easy to access carbs from the milk and shake powders were causing spikes. I was about to start to make some new clothes, on the point of cutting out, and now my waist has shrunk...

    Recently diagnosed, looking for solutions

Its the carbs - the starches and sugars - which cause the level of blood glucose to rise above normal for an ordinary type 2 diabetic. By cutting out high carb foods blood glucose usually reduces, lowering spikes and also the average levels, and HbA1c goes down as the corpuscles are broken down...

School of thought behind Dr Recommendation

Seems odd, Metformin doesn't act instantly but by accumulation, so the time it is taken seems irrelevant.

Taking the shakes - so what happens if....

my HbA1c was 43 last year, not a drastic increase, but it puts me, just, back into type 2 levels. I have not had a detailed health check as the GP wants to talk to me - even though my using the shakes was added to my notes. My suspicion is that the carbs in the shake powders and milk are spiking...

Taking the shakes - so what happens if....

I'll see if the clinic has any record of my weight from last year - I find it impossible to weigh myself after all the abuse I got for not losing weight in the past. I have noticed increased flexibility and harrowing of my middle, so I'm not unhappy about the outcome. I have needed to make some...

Taking the shakes - so what happens if....

Well - the results are in and my HbA1c has risen to 48. I am just glad that I didn't do the trial until I was pretty confident that the way I was eating, two meals a day and no more than 10gm of carbs in the first meal, the rest in the evening, and eating at 12 hourly intervals, kept me pretty...

    What's good BG on Keto?

Hello @Dax40 proteins can be broken down into glucose, but your levels seem about normal, so I don't think you need to worry about it. Some processors inject chicken with plumper-upper-as, to increase profits or to glue tatty edges together, carb based substances. These days I only buy whole...

It is finally official I am diabetic

I am due to go for my blood test tomorrow, so I will find out if fasting and shakes are of any benefit for me. I did make a beef stew for Halloween though - in my pressure cooker. Just a bag of mixed veges and an onion, with some already cooked beef cubed, and it was lovely. I have a stock pot...

I have it diabetes type 2

Well a fat lot of good that advice on diet will be - to reduce blood glucose most type 2's reduce the amount of carbohydrate in the diet. Carbohydrates are the starches and sugars, so bread, potatoes, pasta, biscuits, cakes, root vegetables, sugary drinks, sweet fruits and fruit juices are all...

Newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes

Chocolate is not all that high in carbs - but it is the sugar added to the cocoa to make most of the bars for sale problematic. As all starches and sugars are carbohydrates cutting out high starch foods, grains for instance, could be how to start the process. What was your diagnostic HbA1c? Can...

Has anyone’s cholesterol gone up doing LC diet?

When I have a face to face meeting with my GP - something which doesn't happed all that often, I am usually asked about taking a statin. I recount my experience of asking them and Metformin, and I ask for the numbers - what is the reduction in mortality in those taking statins. I would have...

    The Carnivore diet.

When you start to burn body fat, all the toxins stored with the fat are released. There have been over the years quite a few events termed 'wrecks' where there have been huge numbers of birds and other coast dwelling animals found dead after spells of bad weather. They had not died of...

Diagnosed at 35: How Do You Manage Diabetes Without Losing Your Mind?

When I am eating steak and mushrooms for breakfast out in my campervan it is difficult to feel sorry for those who have just dumped sour milk onto their cereal due to the fridge running our of power overnight. It's happened several times within earshot now. When I offered bacon eggs and sausages...

Hotel Chocolat Velvetiser - Any comments

I have a Bamix and it is such a useful thing to have in the kitchen along with the accessories. It is a tool, where so many things are just gadgets which get used a couple of times and then are relegated to a cupboard. The A (aerator) and B (beater) blades get most use, as I like my coffee...

Diagnosed at 35: How Do You Manage Diabetes Without Losing Your Mind?

I had to wait for a diagnosis until I was in my 60s although it was pretty obvious that I had problems with managing blood glucose right from leaving home at 18. I staggered through my 20s and 30s and my life would have been a lot better if I could have had a diagnosis at that time instead of...

    Low carb forever?

I'm 8 years from diagnosis and feel 20 years younger at least, and can cope with moving knitting machines around much more easily now - I have been able to go on doing the servicing of machines for the local University without spreading out the visits due to fatigue.
