Has anyone gone from long-standing Type 2 diabetes - say 20 years - to remission/ reversal?

I had a flagged test result 10 years before diagnosis which was dealt with by cancelling the test and pressuring me to eat a 'healthy' high carb diet. No mention of high glucose levels. At 73 years of age I seem able to keep my Hba1c levels at around the top end of normal, eating at 12 hourly...

    Introduction

I'm afraid it was embarrassingly easy, as I don't restrict what I eat - except things with more than 4 legs. I had awful trouble with lower legs and feet after the Astra Zeneca jab for Covid, but that was excruciating pain - I did find that using massage and hot and cold water in the shower to...

    Introduction

@nursekate223 I'd never eat rice or potato, nor any high carb food no matter how I craved it, as I tested my blood glucose after trying a meal with and without high carbs and there was a huge difference in the spike at the 2 hour point. I use swede or turnip rather than potato, as it is...

Newly diagnosed - not feeling well - too much metformin?

@DainielP tne symptoms look rather like the possible side effects of the linagliptin, so you should contact the GP surgery - the one I use has an email system which has been really useful for me to access swift attention to what could have been very problematic situations. From the numbers you...

New diagnosis - Not sure what type

@pinguwave You seem to be under a misconception which could be dangerous - you need to count ALL the carbohydrates you are consuming - maybe consider purchasing another meter and strips to test, or more strips for what you have if that is cost effective - the price of the strips can be very...

    Newbie recently diagnosed Type 2

Diet is the mainstay of treatment for type 2 with low carb foods so that the 'broken' system can cope at its own pace without causing spikes in blood glucose levels. I liken it to turning off the taps when a blocked sink is overflowing. I suspect my levels will never go back down into normal...

    Lidl Greek Yogurt

I'll be going down to Lidl later today, here in Poole, as the weather has calmed down. I will check carefully before purchasing.

    Porridge ????

Some can eat it and not spike, some see huge increases in blood glucose levels, some decide that oats is for 'orses - you need to test if you decide to eat it and see which you are.

Greetings. Advice needed about blurry vision.

Doesn't make any difference for me either, and I am on no medication for diabetes. I see the same rise with 'resistant' starch as ordinary, so I don't eat either these days.

I've got type 2 diabetes and poor circulation

A hot water bottle against cold skin can cause chilblains. You'd be better off taking fairly warm showers and massaging arms and legs to get the blood flowing - after taking the Astra Zeneca covid jab my lower legs and feet were extremely swollen and a dreadful colour, but persisting with...

    Sourdough Bread And Diabetes

I think my gut just sees low GI as a challenge as in 'red rag to a bull' and only low carb content is going to work - and even then, it manages to drag more carbs from such things as peas and beans than are supposed to be in them, unless they are the type eaten with the pods. By all means test...

Have I missed something about blood glucose control for type 2 diabetes?

My pleasure - you might notice that bending over is getting a bit easier too - all part of the same process. The floor used to seem further off than it does now.

    Weight loss

Are you seeing lower blood glucose though? At diagnosis I reduced my intake of carbohydrate, both starch and sugar - 6 months later, normal HbA1c. I did lose weight as my metabolism normalized, under 8 and then under 7mmol/l after meals, but that was without any effort - not even reducing...

Have I missed something about blood glucose control for type 2 diabetes?

@Royjk have you noticed your waist shrinking? For some people going low carb gives their liver the chance to kick out glucose, which could be quite a long process for it to get back to normal. I lost 12 inches off my waist in the months following diagnosis.

    Lunchtime

Carbs and the insulin released to deal with them tends to make people hungry, so the change in diet might alter things. Usually substituting protein and fat to ensure that there is adequate nutrition when carbs are reduced helps to reduce appetite, and there is always the option of making a...

    Full fat?

Welcome to the forum. I don't use milk, but butter, full fat Greek yoghurt, I fry in butter or lard or the fat I save from joints, I put cream in my coffee and I feel great.

    Hba1c was 91 now 47

My odd sneaky treat would be steak, onion and mushrooms followed by berries in sugar free jelly, with real custard or cream. NB I am diet only - no danger of hypos from medication. Low carb doesn't rule my life - it is what I will eat from now on. I have lost a load of weight, been in...

Low carb wirh or without metformin

@Lizzypier If you do decide to take the Metformin do arrange to be at home for a few days until you know if you can cope with it. Some people have no problems at all - others have moderate disturbance to their gut - some are unlucky enough to experience explosive faecal incontinence which can...

Memory Loss after years of bad hypos

@speedmaster - it might all be made worse by the statins. I was talking about the same situation on Sunday at the folk club - when I was given atorvastatin my memory was badly affected - I also got bad aches and pains, but my memory was just gone. My brother in law was prescribed statins as a...

    Metformin is making me miserable

After a few weeks taking Metformin and Atorvastatin I was suicidal - but none of the side effects of the medication were recorded in my notes, despite my going though them several times with nurses and GPs trying to get me to take medication. This last time I did mention that it is like talking...
