Please help with advice, t2 diabetes erratic since death of my mother

Another warm welcome @Beth mck You have been dealing with an extremely challenging time. It is extremely hard to prioritise yourself in any way when you are a caregiver. I am sure your mum was extremely grateful to have your care and your presence at the end of her life. I agree with...

    Hello to everybody

Hello and welcome I agree with @EllieM that you should see your doctor. I'm also a T2. T2s have difficulty with carbs. The meals you describe sound quite high in carbs. If I ate them my levels would go through the roof. I manage my diabetes through diet but restricting the level of carbs I...

Stress/Anxiety impacting blood sugar readings? A1C v OGTT?

Hello and welcome @IrishClover I'm sorry that you are suffering so much. I assume also that as with most new mothers you're also not getting a lot of sleep- particularly unbroken nights sleep. Lack of sleep is just another factor that can affect your blood sugar levels. It also affects your...

    Private diagnosis alternatives Australia

Hi @RobynV - fellow Australian here :) I'm not sure where you are situated- I'm a bit outside Canberra. I'm part of a low carb group which has doctors and other medical professionals which are very interested in low carb diets not just for diabetes but for other things. One of those doctors may...

Should I start on Insulin ?

I like your idea for lunch on this day so I may have to steal it (maybe not the tomato but the olives, red onion, cheese all sound really yummy.

Should I start on Insulin ?

I agree with @MrsA2 I suggest that at the start forget about losing weight- concentrate on managing your blood sugar levels. I did it with very low carb. Once you know the level and the types of carbs your body will tolerate you can then look at losing weight knowing the parameters in relation...

Finding help for diet, use of Glucose monitor and generally stopping use of insulin.

Hello and welcome @Thomas Cahill I would never ever say no hope- but I agree if you do decide to reduce your carbs to reduce your insulin you need to discuss it wth you DN. Having a CGM is a great start. I also self fund from time to time. Good luck :)

    all is not well

Hi @lucylocket61 if you're still reading this thread. I think of you often and wonder how you are going. I hope that you are still spending time being read to. I have read a number of the Cdefael books- did you enjoy them? Virtual hugs.

Refused Freestyle Libre 2 free trial

I was refused ages ago- I'm in Australia so that may make a difference. When I asked I was told over the phone that type 2s weren't covered. I'm not sure whether that is their official position or anything.

    Type 2 Diabetes and HRT

Yet another reason to be grateful for early menopause. I was on HRT for a while in my 40s (early menopause) but stopped as I stopped having any symptoms. I had a bone scan when I was about 55 and my levels were slightly higher than normal for a woman my age (I like to think it was all the...

    Dinner surprises without CGM

Hello @cantfindasuitablenamehere Great user name by the way :) The only caveat I would put on your excellent results is that- depending on what else was in the meal the spike may have occurred later than 2 hours I've seen it described as the pizza effect. The amount of fat consumed may delay...

    Daughter just diagnosed

Hello and welcome, I'm afraid as a diet controlled type 2 I really have no useful advice. I'm going to tag in @EllieM who is also a type 1 (was going to also tag @Antje77 but I see she has commented) Virtual hugs from me and a warm welcome. Good luck. edited to fix a number of typos

Should I start on Insulin ?

Hello @jellyang It sounds like you've had a long struggle- virtual hugs for you. I'd be interested as to whether you have tried lowering your carb intake? Just a question as if that's something you've tried and it hasn't worked for you there's not a lot of point in suggesting that to you :)...

A little more info on Apple's attempts to develop a non invasive monitor

Some of that was news to me too :) I am not too optimistic about non invasive blood sugar readings happening anytime soon. Hopeful yes but not really optimistic of anything happening in the next 5-10 years. If it does I would be really happy. As long as companies keep trying that enough for me :)

    BS reading on smart watches

I absolutely understand the idea that getting an expensive watch (if it ever becomes available) just to check blood sugar readings is a waste of time. That said- if they ever make that breakthrough I'll sign up. I currently self fund 3 or so Libre sensors a year just to keep an eye on things-...

    Craving sugar

Hi @Fifi26 - I get it- something that I was told is to try to add some more salt to your diet to reduce sugar cravings. Yes I do know how that sounds but I did find it actually helped (really don't understand why but I thought it worth a try). Not sure if it will work for you- not sure why it...
