Do you see a Chiropodist/Podiatrist regularly ? I see one every few months to have the sides of my nails removed to stop the ingrowth.

    After Surgery

Cannot see anything about Blood sugar levels but there is a caution for Diabetics: (Source: BNF61) This means it can raise your Potassium levels. Best to discuss this with your own Doctor, especially if you are on any other medications. Try and get a telephone Consultation if your Doctor does...

    Ketones

Ketosis, is what you get when you low carb and is a natural process where the fat is burned off as you lose weight. Don't confuse it with DKA ( Diabetic Ketoacidosis) which is a life threatening condition with high blood glucose and high Ketones present in the urine.

DUK's new position statement on Low carbing.

Sorry Ally but I don't agree ! This 'dumbing down' of diabetic education is damaging to our health. By not educating diabetics about carbs and concentrating on the word sugar the lay- Diabetic is being given the wrong information. Similarly rounding up the NICE guidelines to 10 instead of...

    Should I get tested?

Yes, given all the symptoms and the fact that it is in the family you should go and discuss it fully with your GP and get blood tests done, not just a finger prick test, to set your mind at ease one way or the other.

Is a BG of 4 a hypo for type 2 Diabetics

The trouble with this is that the medical community view hypos as medicine induced and that is all they can see in terms of prescribing test strips. Western medicine as a whole is very medication orientated rather that treating the patient holistically and looking for other methods of treatment...

Test strips, Blood Pressure and Diabetics.

Good for you S_h ! The more you can show the nurse that you are : (a) Very knowledgable in your understanding of Diabetes and what the readings mean and what you can do with these readings. i.e. reduce your portions or cut out the foods that are making your levels high the better. (b) Show you...

    hypos

Your own natural Insulin production may be more efficient in the morning, some peoples are. Maybe you should try taking a fast acting carb such as a drink of lucozade, just a little not a whole bottle, just before you start your shift. You should also try drinking plenty of water if you can to...

    Eating grapefruit or not

As probably not many of us have a lab at home ( not the dog either) then best advice is to follow the doctors/pharmacists orders re taking the drugs and things to avoid ! The uptake and potential over dosing is different in all drugs , a lot depends on your metabolism, kidney and liver function...

    treatment forms

It sounds like it was the exemption form for prescriptions then. They don't need this as previously stated. Is there anybody else helping your parents during the day ? If your Dad has Dementia then he is injecting your mum 'when he remembers' could be very dangerous for her ! Especially if he...

JF they are over 60 so exempt anyway. Heathem is on Diet and exercise so not exempt if you are talking about prescription charges. It isn't anybody with Diabetes only those on medication.

http://www.diabetes.org.uk/About_us/Our ... -diabetes/ It's a pity they do not take into account the many positive low carbers who have happily maintained low carbing for more than a year.....me for one !
