Bran flakes and half a banana this morning before heading to the docs for the flu and Covid jabs. Wonderful breezy sunny day. Hope the wind’s not to fierce for everyone else.

I’ve not eaten breakfast yet, I’m being lazy, but it’ll be porridge when I do, the good stuff that’s not been denatured to mush. Had a lovely morning with a Botany group yesterday which is led by a couple in their 90s. He used to work in a teaching and research centre nearby which has sadly been...

At last, an appointment, but how frustrating to have to rely on the kindness, or good sense, of others to get what you need. Maybe the GP knows some good person who’s able trim back, to plant out and pot up in the garden. Worth asking.

    Jury service

I’d be reluctant to do jury service, mainly because I wouldn’t want the need to check and correct to be a distraction. I also wonder if anyone can be truly fair and impartial.

Breakfast seems a long time ago now, but it was a bowl of branflakes with half a banana, eaten outdoors by the pond. In fact I think the bowl’s still out there, must go and look before night’s completely fallen.

    My new challenge ,

Bit by bit, you’re swiftly regaining the life you had before your second leg went AWOL. Admiration for the speed at which it’s happening. And for your can-do attitude!

    Type 1s and cataracts

I had cataracts removed about nine or ten years ago. It’s a relatively straightforward procedure, but of course like any op for Type Ones, having blood sugars steady in the safe zone during healing helps avoid infections. Dumping contact lenses for clear vision is fabulous!

    Instinct Sensor

Has anyone tried the Instinct sensor? Just heard about it. Made by Abbott, to be used with the Medtronic 780g. I was wondering if anyone knew how accurate and reliable the Instinct sensor is?

Your meals sound delicious Annb. Do you use a Greek recipe for moussaka? I used to subject the family to a Greek/our house version that left out the potatoes, used marrow instead of aubergine and included garlic, onion, lots of herbs and a cheese sauce. Not really moussaka but it always got...

I also have bird feeders that are attached by suction cups to the bedroom window, but it does mean that I often don’t get up til the seed’s all eaten.

Cold here today, a shock after the lovely warmth. Supper tonight will be a cottage pie, with garden beans. Next week I’ll be trying to ripen any still green sungold in the greenhouse; I’ll bring them indoors and use the paper bag method. I set up two bird feeders that I can watch from an indoor...

The food store here expanded in the run up to Brexit, was wonderful during the time of Covid, and doesn’t seem to have subsided much since. Every now and again I have a rummage and we add stuff to a slow cook and eat some treats. It’s hard to keep the stores in mind when making a shopping list

Breakfast was porridge, Lidl’s best. Lunch, a slice of veg flan and a mug of cold veg and chickpea soup. A big pressure-cook of soup lasts us at least [emoji639] days. Cauliflower with cheese fondue sounds good Antje, and cabbage moussaka does too Annb, even though tiger cooking of it was...

    Type 1'stars R Us

I’m trying to collect stats to feed into a pump - those narrow half unit margins make big differences. I think a day off beckons. Some short bamboo stakes needed so I can make a better protection for young kale plants than the rough low netting perched on prunings from exuberant shrubs. It’s sad...

So you’re home again, hooray. Back to a familiar place. That new leg looks very stylish - loving the blue colour. I imagine the new ways of putting both legs within easy reach when you go to bed, making sure they don’t fall over, having ways to get places or think ahead if you’ll be in a hurry...
