Has anyone tried the Instinct sensor? Just heard about it. Made by Abbott, to be used with the Medtronic 780g.
I was wondering if anyone knew how accurate and reliable the Instinct sensor is?
 
It’s unlikely there’s going to be any reliable reviews yet. It has only just been FDA approved at the beginning of September and looks to only be available in the USA as of yet. I’m part of a Facebook group where many people in the USA have the option to switch to either the Simplera or Instinct sensor but shipping dates at the earliest appear to only be October/November.
 
If you had all your ducks in a row and ordered from Minimed yesterday, 9/22/25, one might have a unit to insert by the end of the week…and be able to report on results next week. I came to this forum for this exact reason knowing it’s too soon for a report, but look forward to hearing about folk’s experiences with the new sensors. G4 users KNOW all the ups and downs of those units and are really looking forward to something better!!

Here in the Netherlands i have been told that there are a few people who got the Instinct as a kind of '' trial ''. They could not tell me when it will be available for everyone who would like to have one.
I am one of the many people who has problems with the Guardian 4 not working the '' stated '' seven days.
My present pump is a little older than 4 years so i can get another one. The new one at this moment will be supplied with a Simplera. They could not tell me if i will be able to switch to the Instinct when available.
So i told the people at the hospital who will '' arrange '' the new pump that i will continue with the Guardian 4 and hope the Instinct will be available for me about two months before my next stay abroad for 3 months or so.
During my 12 weeks stay abroad a few months ago i had 5 or 6 Guardian 4 sensors failing so my SIXTH Minimed pump will have to come with reliable sensors.
SOME representatives at Medtronic will start questioning my '' skills '' with the sensor. Of course they cannot admit there are more people having troubles. I started with the Guardian 3 and when 4 arrived i made the switch. I dont know how many years exactly i have been using Guardian sensors. Must be 5 years or more and what i am sure about is that every year the number of failing sensors is rising. I think that the last six months i had more rotten apples than in the first 3 years of Guardian use.
Especially when travelling abroad you want your sensors to end at a moment when you are in a comfortable place and not when you are at a busy airport ready to board a plane like a few months ago. A free replacement will not feel very helpful then.
Right now it is still hard to find people on the internet who have been using the Instinct AND who can tell in a serious way (not like these '' dietary supplement '' influencers jumping around on your screen just caring about how they would look to us).
There is a lot of money involved in diabetes care and i expect these companies have a special '' budget to bribe '' the people that we diabetics should be able to trust. Just like the '' military industrial complex '' there must be something similar in the medical environment as well. If my heath insurance needs to pay a few thousand euros for a few decades to a certain company another company will be glad if they can make somebody influence my choice.
The ethics of medical staff is not that much superior compared to the tiler who tells me to do the kitchen as well when i hired him to do the bathroom.

As usual you can find positive and negative reviews from actual users about all sensors available.
Let us say you have the Guardian 4, The Simplera, the Instinct and a totally new kid on the block.
There could be different reasons why one would work perfect for me and lousy for you, the reader. Something like living in a tropical country or in Scandinavia,cycling 25 kilometers to work 5 days a week or just leave your house to go shopping at a 5 minute walk, being obese or kind of skinny, being a vegetarian or having cola with every meal.
IF the majority of users are positive about the Instinct i will give it a try. MAYBE the first few months after arrival in Europe the manufacturer will succeed in making it more '' reliable '' if that is an issue.
We should remember these manufacturers are all companies and they are around to make money ( just like these companies who want to make you believe that a smartphone needs to be replaced after two years) BUT they understand once all you read about is problems they will hopefully try to improve things.
