    T1 and prolonged 16:8 fasting - risks?

If it works, right? i didn't know about being able to skip meals before. It was embedded in my brain that i need to eat because i'm taking insulin, when it should be the other way around. So this practice has been liberating and matches my lifestyle well too.

    very sad

hi, T1 here. I agree with the comments above. a diet change might be really good for you, if you aren't already practicing a good one. I personally recommend fasting (the 16:8 regimen, i'm not very keen on the other setups as might be too harsh for beginners), but since you are a T2 ask your...

    T1 and prolonged 16:8 fasting - risks?

mostly for better glucose control, a tiny bit for weight maintenance. i mainly want to stick to a certain (albeit rough) cal count so i could stay within my BMI range. my range is 118-125 pounds, and i started when i was at 125, now im at my ideal 121. i intend to keep it there.

    T1 and prolonged 16:8 fasting - risks?

same here. i finish dinner at 8pm and break the fast with lunch at 12nn the next day. Lantus at 9am regularly, no bolus. i absolutely love how smooth my BSLs are, so surprised with my endo's reaction. edit: by the by, how long have you both been fasting? no breaks?

    T1 and prolonged 16:8 fasting - risks?

hi y'all. here to ask about fasting again, question as per post title. i've been practicing the 16:8 for possibly a total of 2wks now, not consecutive days. i've studied this intensively for a month, both fasting and my own metabolism. i've established my basal rate and ICR too. so i just came...

    Blood sugars rise at night

agree with basal testing suggestion, and you might benefit from split dose (if you don't do it already). also, what's your daily routine? meal times/bolus units/basal units/times taken? but please know that we're only here to suggest things, still best to consult your doctor for any radical...

Struggling to cope and avoiding my insulin

just read your post and i can already feel how heavy your current burden is... i am not a mom and have no family of my own yet but i can definitely understand your frustration and anger over trying to control your blood sugars. try to spring back little by little. fight back against that anger...

    Type 1 sudden Lantus effectiveness??

i haven't had an expired Lantus yet as it's only used once a day, then back into the fridge, so i wouldn't be of help on this topic. however, with Apidra, they're not as sensitive to heat as i presumed them to be, having accidentally left mine for 3days in a garage (the Philippines' running...

    Type 1 sudden Lantus effectiveness??

I will keep these in mind, thank you. I really got scared earlier because i've had a hypo in the range 1~2mmol and it was traumatic, i didn't want it happening again. But you are right, there might have been other factors at play. I will be more vigilant next time.

    88 year old father, advice

i'm def not an expert on this but if one says "on the high side" but "acceptable" i would assume something along the range of 140-170 mg/dl (7.5-10 mmol) and rather stable in that range. if he has been refused surgery i suppose the hospital does think that his current BSLs are too high. i think...

    Diet And Weight Loss Again

do you calorie count? i agree with other comments, you probably need to eat more but not in carbs. do check for any other issues, or another class of diabetes maybe like Daibell mentioned. have you had any thyroid problems before? digestion problems?

    Type 1 sudden Lantus effectiveness??

hello @kitedoc , thanks for the reply, very informative to me. i wanted to try IF to keep my BSL stable for most of the day, plus a bit of weight maintenance. it's also the reason why i did basal testing, and currently studying my ICR. i'm hoping to be stable enough to do 16:8 fasts, but if...

    Type 1 sudden Lantus effectiveness??

as a bit of history: last night i had a hypo at 9.30pm. was 65 mg/dl (3.61 mmol), had a cup of milk. this morning, FBG at 9.15am was 116 (6.4). i'm trying to get into IF so only injected Lantus 8u (as per daily/most effective dosage as per basal test). but for some reason i was feeling rather...

hi Cristina :) as in the previous comments, yes, please do share more background. also from your post title, i don't know if you're newly diagnosed or have been having trouble controlling your diabetes, or both (because brittle type), but please stay strong. i'm not a brittle t1 but i know from...

Testing For Basal Rates And Icr, Going To If Diet, Any Advice?

hello @kitedoc, thanks for the sharing and advice. i am curious, are basal levels given continuously while on pump? wondering because i have seen instructions to "change basal level in the afternoon" or something similar, but i inject mine to last the whole day. i'm planning to go IF because...

Testing For Basal Rates And Icr, Going To If Diet, Any Advice?

recently i had been looking at IF (intermittent fasting) and came across a blog detailing some personal experiences and sharing advice. i asked some questions and she (blogger) replied that maybe i should test for my basal rate and ICR first before i head into IF. my doc hasn't taught me about...
