Better HbA1c, but now high cholesterol

I can not understand why all these people have been prescribed statins, there is supposed to be a protocol that each patient is assessed for before they are put on them. My cholesterol has been as high as 7.2, and I have never been on them as the other factors asses made me low risk...

HbA1c results come back as 9.1

Do you really like bread, spuds and pasta, or does it just feel easier to fit in? I would make a list of what you do like eating and work out a couple of 'set menu' taking out the carb or reducing the carb, so its easier and you do not have to worry so much. The good thing is you know whats...

    Salted Butter

I have a history of high blood cholesterol and I have been on a low fat diet, no butter, no cream, no eggs, little cheese, veg oil, for nearly 40 yrs. And it made not one bit of difference. I have the blood results to prove it. After the last lecture at the hospital, about eating the low fat...

    Pre-diabetic and under weight

Mmm. I have always had high cholesterol, my dad died from heart disease at 55 and ate a low fat diet. I had eaten low for the last 40 years, I also do not eat meat. It made no difference to my cholesterol. Over the last year I have seen the consultant in a large teaching hospital in the lipid...

    I am so disappointed today

Yes you can, I do not pay. On the free app it gives you the cal, carbs, fat, protein for each item. If you click on the pie chart on the top right of the screen, it gives you a choice of totals for calories and nutrients which include carbs for either the day, or an average for 7 days. The...

    I am so disappointed today

To lose weight you have to eat less calories, so apart from water retention which women are blessed with, have you replaced carb calories with fat calories? I use MyFitnessPal app to moniter both. So decide how many calories you need to eat to maintain or lose weight and use the app to monitor...

I want to do Necastle Diet, But My Doctor No Support, What must I do

If you are overweight your GP will happily endorse you losing some weight. I think you just have to be a bit less 'confrontational'. Most are worried about doing the wrong thing and the Newcastel diet is abit revolutionary for a lot. I suggest watching this...

LC/HF packup for 12 hour shift

I used to work long shifts and just always took way more low carb food than I was ever going to eat. Chocolate, yoghurt, fruit and seeds in a pot, mixed chopped salad with olives with tuna or egg, Sliced cheese, I crave salt when I am tired so salted nuts or Aldi do some lowish carb snacks.

Slowly slipping into old bad habits.

Your university should have a student support officer or college nurse. You would be surprised , or maybe not how many people struggle with eating. Your life becomes wrapped up in what you are eating and being at uni just makes you have to think, explain about it all the time. When you just want...

    Newcastle diet without the shakes

If I want to eat food but eat 800 or less, I have never used shakes, I make pots of food. Its a bit like the cabbage diet. I use dried textured soya, tin tomatoes, onions, veg, garlic, flavouring of the day, so it adds up to 500cals. There is usually so much it lasts three meals. This allows...

Your a diabetic you can't have sugar

I think its unhelpful to blame anyone for their disease, it makes people have a them and us attitude, when we are all us and apart from the very lucky, we are all susceptible to something. If we think about tolerance to things, I have known people drink relatively little alcohol and end up with...

Ground almonds v Almond flour for bread?

I thought they were just the same,https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Almond_meal I have never seen ground almonds with the skins on as they are used for making cakes traditionally. I have found Aldi and Lidl the cheapest place to buy nuts

    Urgent Access to Endocrinologist

When you saw the doctor did he do a full blood count? If you are going in complaining of a high BS they perhaps only tested that and there may be another reason for palpitations and breathlessness. Also what is your HbA1c, that is a far better indicator of you BS levels. When your heart...

saw this on the DUK website - breakthrough in type 2 treatment

I think what everyone has to remember is journalists are basically lazy, and with rolling news they go for easily consumed bullet points. With a bit of luck and a good wind the will be some follow up on radio, that will be better informed and more in depth. It will be interesting to have a...

    Balance magazine - November/December

Its very interesting isn't it when professionals are given information that goes against what they know, they ignore it. I come from a family that have a history of heart disease, my dad died at 55. I have high cholesterol and have spent most of my life on a low fat diet, but have not been on...

    Help with carb counting please

Depending on how you buy your ingredients, use MyfitnessPal to scan the barcode or you can do a search. A basic app is free. It gives the cals/carbs per serving, change the serving size so it grms x by the amount you are using in the recipe. i.e. 1grm x 40= serving size. Do that for every...
