Type 1 I injected the wrong insulin

You need to eat enough carbs now to cover the novorapid. Do you carb count? I'm on a 1unit to 10g carb ratio. With an accidental 7 units I'd need to eat 70g carbs. Don't go to sleep without eating as your BG will decrease. Might be worth setting an alarm for every couple of hours to check it...

Any recommendations Libre vs Dexcom G5?

So am I right on thinking that even though with G5 you can use the dexcom android app to get the data, using xdrip is useful as the transmitter life can be extended? What would the main advantage be of using xdrip over the official app? Is it more user friendly? Does it give a better breakdown...

    Small victories!

A month after I was diagnosed with T1 I had my dietician review yesterday. As all my readings are pretty much single figures (apart from the time a Thai meal made it go to 11) she's happy I'm managing and says she doesn't need to formally follow me up any more. I can get her on the phone if I...

    Issues with my employer

I totally inject through my tights. Found myself on a train in a dress and thought 'hmm, didn't think this one through' but it was fine. I'm recently diagnosed but I've taken the stance that my testing and injecting is not something I want to hide away. Yes I'll be discreet but I'm not going to...

What does everyone use to carry their supplies around?

I've recently seen myabetic bags for carrying supplies. I want all the sizes! And all the bright colours! Until I win the lottery, paperchase had some cute, very small pencil cases which fit my 2 insulin pens and spare needles.

Any recommendations Libre vs Dexcom G5?

Not heard of the Connect (v v new to this). Is connect the app and is the sensor called something else? And is android supported or is it just iPhone? I'm up for testing a few different systems in the early days to figure out which suits the best, although I ruled out libre as I wanted alerts...

Any recommendations Libre vs Dexcom G5?

Thank you to you all. I've bitten the bullet and ordered a Dexcom G5 and a couple of sensors(also some Skin-tac and Rock tape). I'll use the app first off and see how I get on. If I like it and think it's worth it, I might get the receiver as a back up. I'm interested to see what's happening in...

    Easy Low carb Cake Recipes

I used agave syrup instead of honey as you need less. I think the liquidness of them is helpful as the coconut flour soaks up liquid very easily but I'm sure splenda would work as well, especially as the recipe said you could leave out sweetner if you thought the bananas were sweet enough. And...

    Easy Low carb Cake Recipes

How low carb do you want? I tried a banana loaf cake made with coconut flour and coconut oil-the whole thing baked was about 800g. Figured a 50g slice was 7g carb. Super easy. Oven@180degrees C. 4oz coconut flour, 1heaped teaspoon baking soda, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 2-4oz walnuts. Mix together...

    I can't stand this!

I just dropped in for an urgent on the day appointment with my GP. You can't book them over telephone, you just have to be there before 10.30am- maybe your practice has something similar? And it's much harder for reception to say no if you are physically there saying GP told you to make an...

    Exam modifications for T1

Sadly not a university exam so no internal service available. There is an equality policy but it relies on providing them with information so they can decide if it's appropriate or not. I'll email and see what sort of information they need and keep my fingers crossed. Thanks all for the advice!

    xdrip for dexcomg4

No advice but following. I'm also wondering why Xdrip is needed with the dexcom CGM so I'll be interested to hear people's replies!

    Exam modifications for T1

I'm due to sit a series of post-grad exams in June over 2 days in one of the medical colleges. I've just been recently diagnosed. I have no idea how my BG will react to exam stress. I believe that certain exam adjustments can be made such as allowing time for BG testing, eating to keep BG up and...

    Eating out

If it's a chain restaurant, I find that either the restaurant themselves or myfitnesspal to have information online. I second the carbs and cals app-really useful, even if some portion sizes seem ridiculously big!

Any recommendations Libre vs Dexcom G5?

Hi @Winterwatch, thanks so much for your reply and the links. Really useful to have something focused. The G5 rep said the sensors are only advised for 7 days use. But I take it they can be restarted and used up to 3 weeks (3x7days) as long as they are stuck on well. Would this be correct in...

Any recommendations Libre vs Dexcom G5?

Hi, I'm thinking I'll need to fund my own CGM. Recently diagnosed type 1, my control at the moment when I'm testing before meals is between 4 and 8. I got told off by my DSN for testing after meals. I test before and after I exercise and also before I drive. I'm on a basal-bolus regime. If...

    Thinning hair?

I'm type 1, diagnosed 3 weeks ago and HbA1c of 125 at that time. Now I'm on insulin I've noticed that my hair is coming out much easier during showering, brushing...lying down...I leave a trail. It's quite thick anyway but nothing noticeable on me. The hairdresser was concerned when she was...

    Breakfast Cereal

I loved to eat cinnamon graham's (now called curiously cinnamon) before my type 1 diagnosis 3 weeks ago. But it's basically just a bowl of pure sugar. So I should probably use the rest of my current box and then say farewell. Have found a paleo honey and pecan grain free granola in the meantime...

    Traveling with injectable medication

I've just got a Frio and I love it. Easy to use. They posted it within a day or 2. Can't figure out how to post a photo though. I got the owl pattern because why not?!

    Management Apps

I use a notebook (as the dietician likes to see it on paper) but I've found the diabetes:m app very useful especially the graph and pie chart function. I use an android phone and it works well for me.
