why do some people get the choice of a pump?

The honeymoon period might last a month, 6 months, a year or maybe even longer. I think it depends how you eat and exercise will certainly help too. If you eat high carbohydrate foods (lots of bread, rice, pasta), takeaways and sugary foods then it won't last very long because you are...

why do some people get the choice of a pump?

Precisely. The most important things in the early stages is that you are monitoring your glucose levels in the morning, before meals, 2 hours after meals and before you go to bed. Also that your basal (levemir) is the correct dosage - basal should keep your glucose levels stable (no more...

    Treats on special occasions

Happy Anniversary :) About three weeks back, I was on a youth camp and all leaders were indulging in desserts, cakes, sweets all week. I resisted and decided to treat myself to ice-cream on the Friday evening. Honestly, I didn't even enjoy it! I hadn't had any ice-cream in four months and I...

why do some people get the choice of a pump?

There are positives and negatives associated with pump and MDI. It really depends on what you feel most comfortable with, how your control has been and whether better glucose control can be improved by using a pump that wasn't there before. I think I will try the pump at some stage but for now...

    Ketones in the morning.

Those ketone levels are completely fine. The danger is when glucose levels are high (13 mmol/l +) and ketones are high and rising. It indicates a lack of insulin in the body so action needs to be taken immediately otherwise diabetic ketoacidosis will ensue. If you want more clarification, I'll...

Curious! How and what do you all take to treat your hypos?

I remember very clearly one of my first hypos - It was a 3.1 and I just ate crazily. 300 ml of lucozade, two slices of toast and some cereal... 28.1 an hour later! :O It certainly was a steep learning curve that first week :)

Bad experiences at Royal Victoria, Belfast

Sorry to hear @LizzieNI. Surprised as I have several friends who are doctors throughout the Royal and generally heard good reports. However, I will ask them what they think of the diabetic clinic.
