    Type 2 Dawn Phenomenon

Doesn't the DP also have something to do with your body ridding itself of toxins, etc whilst you are asleep? I'm sure I recall Culiga posting about this previously

Blood Sugar higher at 2 hours than 1?

I'm no expert, but recall when I was first diagnosed that many forum regulars recommended testing your BG 2 hours after you eat something. I think that is to allow time for the glucose from the food to enter the bloodstream.

    Xylitol Chocolate

Thanks Marina, I have to say that my wife is being very supportive; making me pans of soup then putting into tubs in the fridge that I can either take to work with me or have a bowl as soon as I get home. Also ensuring that there is plenty of salad stuff and veg in the fridge. I'm also...

    Xylitol Chocolate

I am a real chocaholic and have zero willpower when it is left lying about the house by my son. I haven't succumbed so far whilst on this Newcastle diet though (he types whilst touching wood). I'm going to REALLY try and never eat chocolate again - just like an alcoholic daren't have another...

The Cure for Type 2 Diabetes

I have to agree with your logic on this one. I'm two weeks into the Newcastle diet now and already my BG has dropped from over 7 when I was taking Metformin, to 5.2 without any meds. HOWEVER - I am under no illusions that I can return to my old unhealthy eating habits and hope to keep my BG...

    pain in foot

Well I've learned something tonight Viv. I had no idea that excess brussel sprouts contributed to gout. I just thought they gave you excess gas.

    cold feet

I've noticed my hands and feet get cold very easily lately too. It may be related to betes or not; I don't know. What I do now is always wear slippers when I'm at home and usually wear gloves when I'm out walking the dog or very often when I'm driving in this cold, winter weather. Why don't...

starting newcastle diet on 2nd jan

Hi Viv, I think Atkins is a great "blokes" diet; as most of us love bacon and eggs and of course STEAKS. :D One thing that did concern me was NO FRUIT. I love fruit and intend to start eating an apple a day plus loads of berries; mainly rasberries and blueberries when I come off the...

I actually enjoy the shakes and they are dead handy to make in my office or when I'm out on the road. I keep a shaker, mineral water bottle and tub of Asda shake mix in the boot of my car; so whilst I'm dashing about all day measuring up peoples roofs and collecting solar orders I can quickly...

    Life after the Newcastle Diet

My main problem was a sweet tooth - I just couldn't resist chocolate. I'm aware of the obvious things to avoid, chocolate, junk food, too many carbs - I was just hoping there was a sensible eating plan out there that wasn't too patronising or boring. I guess it's just a case of everything in...

    Life after the Newcastle Diet

As I've posted on another related topic, I'm doing great on the Newcastle Diet to date: viewtopic.php?f=27&t=25893&start=240 However; I want to start planning for my post 8 week diet, so I don't "undo" all my good work. Anyone have a sensible, healthy eating plan that they would care to share...

Just a quick update from me. 10 days into the diet now and I'm finding it easy to stick to; largely down to the fantastic soups my wife makes for me every day (I'm so lucky). I've lost 10 lbs in 10 days, which seems to be the norm and I stopped taking my meds (2 x 500mg of Metformin per day)...

Do you imagine what other forum members look like?

I got a mention in my local newspaper earlier this week, but the photo they used is about a year old. I'm 10 days into the Newcastle diet now and determined to keep on it for 8 weeks. Treat this photo as my "Before" one and I'll upload another one mid March - the "After" one...

I hear you. In my case however, I started drinking red wine every night because I read it was good for the BG. Trouble was, I found it difficult to open a bottle of red and only drink one glass; so most nights I drank the full bottle myself. So, apart from all the other benefits of...

starting newcastle diet on 2nd jan

Thanks guys for the encouragement. Fortunately for me, my wife is on a zero fat diet regime as she awaits gall bladder surgery; so she has been making soups, salads and stir fry for us both. :D Not found the diet boring as yet, but is is still only week one for me. I guess the biggest...
