Total Newbie Not just to diet but to diabetes

I would not worry too much about the exercise at first. Your activity level will increase as you lose weight and feel better. Diet is 90% of it, both for weight loss and blood sugar control. Exercise is excellent for your health but too much all at once can cause injury. You have this, you will...

    Eyesight better ?

Hi there. Large changes in blood sugar can absolutely cause changes in vision. Often this is temporary until things settle down. It is best to not change anything regarding prescriptions until your sugars have been stable for a while.

    filling recipes needed

fathead pizza dough. You can find the recipe easily by googling it. It is easy to make and extremely filling. If you make it in a square and cut it into bread sized pieces it makes a very filling sandwich and is tough enough to not fall apart. It is made with almond flour but does not taste like...

    Type 2 Dental Guidance required.

I had 28 teeth removed all at once and healed up just fine. In hindsight undiagnosed diabetes was probably a large contributing factor in losing my teeth. If your sugars are under control and you practice good oral hygiene you should be fine. You will want to keep a very close eye on things as...

    Why is alcohol bad,

The warning is against excess drinking as it can send you hypoglycemic. Metformin reduces the amount of glucose generated by your liver, aka liver dump, and alcohol takes your livers attention away from doing anything but processing alcohol. This means if your sugars go too low your liver wont...

Hi and welcome to the forum. I am sorry you are going through this. One suggestion is to ask your doctor for extended release metformin. Many people find that it has far fewer side effects. Liver on the menu?

Sunflower seeds was also one of the five foods. One reason to avoid liver is if you have hemochromatosis (sp?) which is more common in people of Celtic descent. People with this should avoid red meats and organ meats high in iron.

    About metformin

You might want to ask for extended release metformin. It made all the difference for me. It's worth a try.

    Eating out

A small soft sided cooler bag will keep an ice pack going for the day. They are not very expensive. Cheese strings, baby bells, pepperoni, hard boiled eggs. There are lots of relatively portable things, even a container of salad will work with a cooler bag.

    Advice from long termers appreciated

Yep, I every now and then make a totally low carb meal, usually a brand new recipe, and feed it to the definitely not low carb family. Sometimes it's a hit, other times not so much but thats the way all new recipes seem to go.

Support thread for those of us who dont lose weight

No you are far from the only one. It hurts when you get told to just suck it up and deal with it but you are just so exhausted all the time. People really don't understand what it means to be chronically ill or fatigued. I have been told so often, "but you look fine". People that know me don't...

    Advice from long termers appreciated

Hi, I think everyone has bad days and bad weeks even if they don't choose to admit it. Eating out is difficult whether it is a restaurant or at a friends house. I have spiked very high after eating an omelette out, you just have no control over whats in it. The thing is that you can only do so...

Support thread for those of us who dont lose weight

I also lost 30 pounds initially but have not lost anything for months. I even did a 4 day fat fast and lost 4 pounds recently. The minute I broke the fast back to LCHF I gained 6 pounds in less than 2 days. I am now right back where I started and not budging. It is very frustrating as I have 80...

    Increased meds/insulin.

Oats, cereal, bananas, oranges, bread, rice, potatoes. Almost everything you are eating is very high carb and pushing your blood sugars up. Carbohydrates turn into pure sugar once eaten and whether you realize it or not you are eating a very high sugar diet. If you are type 2 then continuing to...
