    Travel letter

It's worth taking a letter in case immigration query your insulin. I've never been asked for a letter anywhere in the world but it's a sort of insurance. Best to tell whoever is leading the activities as you are on insulin, just in case as activity tends to lower your BG

    Type 1'stars R Us

Ouch, I remember being given a glass and metal syringe and the needle was so large I couldn't push it into my skin! Thank heavens things have changed so much

What to eat when having hypo

Agree but be careful, it's easy to have too many sweets, go too high and get into a pendulum effect. Have something, wait 10 minutes then check your BG again. Only experience will help with how much to have. Good luck!

    How old is everyone

Diagnosed at 31 and that was 39 years ago - OMG, is it really that long!

    New to insulin

At the end of the day it will be down to you and how your body reacts to the Novarapid. The advice above sounds very sensible to me, if in doubt, test your BG. Good luck!

    Reactive to exercise?

I exercise a lot and even a fast walk really knocks blood sugars down. Try having less insulin before exercising and maybe a longer acting meal? I have a Burcher type muesli that works quite well but I take carbs with me. Good luck

    Unexpected sugar in foods

We've just been to Lapland with our grandchildren. Hotel did French Onion soup one night, good but tasted sweet. Found the chef who said she had added 3 tablespoons of brown sugar to 10 litres of soup. Why? Bag's OK but you do have to be wary when you're outside your normal environment

    Cholesterol testing kits

I tried one and it's pretty iffy so you couldn't really rely on the results. Statins work well as long as you find one that works for you.

FREESTYLE LIBRE - Refused point blank

From April 2019 all ''eligible' diabetics should be able to have Freestyle Libre. CCG's criteria will vary but they must publish what their criteria are. Could also try writing to your MP to put pressure on your CCG. Don't just accept what the nurse has said, fight your corrner, we'll all be...

    Advice on injecting in public

I inject in public all the time, but discreetly, and no one has ever complained or probably even noticed. Going to a public toilet to inject is more likely to make people comment plus they aren't the cleanest places. Try getting family members together and explaining to them what diabetes is...

explaining what it's really like to live with Type 1

You sound as if you're struggling a bit. I've been T1 for 38 years and it's not easy, you have to consider your BG all the time. I'm good with my diet, get it wrong eating out sometimes. Main thing for my sanity and health is exercise. I go running several times a week, only 3.5 miles...

    Managing exercise and insulin

Michael Moseley Michael Moseley did one of his programmes about fitness and days that women should eat before they exercise, men should eat afterwards. I now have breakfast before I go out running or walking and that seems to work very well. Worth trying but if you feel rubbish when...

    A salutory tale

Thanks very much for sharing that salutary tale, it's amazing how some people feel that eating the won't things is the only way to make life worth living. Most of us know that is complete tosh and enjoy our lives, injections and by testing is just part of it. Sorry for your loss but I imagine...

Travelling Abroad For The First Time Since Diagnosis

Don't worry about putting your Frio pouches into a plastic bag, just tell security that you have insulin in your handbag and you shouldn't have any problems. I've literally travelled all over the world with insulin in Frio pouches and no-one has ever asked to see it, or my letter from my GP...
