    Portion sizes do you weigh

Ooooh...life’s too short to weigh stuff. As I low carb I am not too concerned re portions sizes, I don’t have a big appetite anyway.

Don't involve yourself in the blame game.

Of course we can point the finger at the food industry. Equally we must take responsibility for the stuff we choose to eat. If you are poor then choices become limited I know. Education, media, literacy all help us to make choices - big pharma is as destructive as big food.

    Type 2 Saw nurse today

We are the guardians of our own health. Realistically just because I am a qualified health professional (not now, I am retired) does not mean I know what I am talking about. The pedestal factor comes into play too and I knew a fair few people that thought they were God’s gift to healthcare. In...

can't talk to partner about diabetes.

So many issues to unpick here. People deal with stuff, stupid stuff, serious stuff, any stuff, in different ways often as a result of personality or past experiences. If communications tend to be concrete rather than affective, then introducing potentially life threatening agendas can cause...

    Type 2 Feeling really angry!

As a retired former nurse I used to advise people that ultimately they are the guardians of their health and if possible, to find health profs in which they might place their trust / wellbeing. Given the budget cuts in past 20 years to health care, increasing emphasis is on getting rid of senior...

    Type 2 Feeling really angry!

Mmm. Tech has made life and information so very much more accessible...if you have resources, literacy, and want to take responsibility for issues. My GP has been pretty decent and I reported on here my great result following diagnosis in June. HbA1c went from 89 to 34. I have just returned from...

Need To Seriously Drop Down My Hba1c And Turn My Life Around.

Akindrat, I have read through most of this thread. The first thing that occurs to me is you - and probably some of your family members - have an unhealthy relationship with food. I was diagnosed T2 in June and my nearest and dearest have supported my new dietary choices, medication and side...

Would you say I was poisoned?

Mistakes happen. Deliberate normally requires a motive, from your description there is no motive. So it is for each of us, irrespective of known / unknown health issues, to guard our own wellbeing. It is more concerning you think you may have been “poisoned”.

    I Don't Understand The Nhs

There are areas of the world that have huge carb based diets largely due to poverty and the lack of protein availability. Size is prized as being evidence of good health. HIV highlighted this for many of the people for whom I helped care. In the “developed” world, skinny in seen as desirable...

The Process Of Bariatric Surgery On The Nhs

I hope you get best advice and make informed decision. One caveat I have re bariatric surgery is that the NHS won’t supply free excess skin removal, come the day. Maybe a slower weight loss might result in less “baggy bits”. I hope so...

How can I sweeten my coffee?

I was aware of the potential effects of any substance with “itol” as an ending. Mannitol was used in hospitals to clean out gut prior to gut surgery. Retired nurse who remembers the old days! Taste is everything for me, I can accommodate a burst of gut activity if I overdo the xylitol . Provided...

How can I sweeten my coffee?

Thank you. However my partner would say the same...tastes fine. However she has no problem with sweeteners, I want to throw up when I taste them. So I need to know if a recommendation comes from someone who can’t abide aspartame and any and all products of this type. If not, then I won’t try it.

How can I sweeten my coffee?

I fancied trying erythritol but was concerned about taste. I have real issues about artificial sweeteners and taste. Xylitol tastes like sugar which is why I have stuck with it. If someone with similar issues with taste tells me erythritol tastes like sugar, I will gladly try it.

    Pip

My impression is that benefits are largely based upon the effects of pathologies on people. If your GP and hospital consultants will support your case then you have prospects I believe. I suggest you pick the brains of CAB perhaps?

How can I sweeten my coffee?

My only real indulgence is a spoonful in tea and coffee. Apart from my home made chilli sauce and lemon squash (not in same bottle) which is also reliant on xylitol.

How can I sweeten my coffee?

Xylitol! Great stuff, tastes like sugar. Interesting laxative effect but I like a good clearout A teaspoon in coffee has no effect on me.

Diet To Help Type 2s Who Are Not Obese...

Thank you, good point re meds. I think I will wait for next HbA1c then if in same area of result as current then i can think about the stop metformin discussion with my GP.

Woman attributes low carb diet to putting type 2 diabetes into remission

Well done goonergal. May i assume you are an Arsenal fan? Me too. Gave up my season ticket last year. Such is life, given my recent diagnosis I am not sure my health would have benefitted from the pre match rat burger which I liked to eat before going into the stadium. On topic, presumably you...

Diet To Help Type 2s Who Are Not Obese...

Hmmmm. I would rather eat a bucket of cold vomit than milkshakes especially expensive milkshakes but each to their own I agree. Trying to achieve a health gain via food requires IMO, a change of personal strategy. It makes sense for the change to be something that is healthful and sustainable in...
