    How many carbs?

Hello Debbie. Like you, I was diagnosed recently -June - with T2. I went as low carb as I could. Bit of milk in tea /coffee but max 2 cups a day. No carbs otherwise unless I had a bit of cheese. Definitely no sucrose. Read food labels for carbs like my life depended on it HbA1c went from 89 to...

How do high sugar spikes make you feel?

My BG before formal diagnosis via HbA1c (done with chum’s meter) was 24.7 I think. I felt fine as always. Never had a hypo.

A Calorie is not a Calorie?

Thank you for this, it was truly mind expanding. Lots for me to think about although the messages are pretty simple.

    Puzzled, need advice please

Thank you. I was thinking along those lines too. Reality is I suspect no one really knows, plus everyone is that little bit different although given enough people, patterns may be identified. I am only trying to add in a small amount of carb to check response. Was never a cake, biscuit or...

    Truly disgusting

I put up a tweet last night. Got a pretty impressive number of “likes” which means being read rather than popularity. Thankfully.

Really? Want my recipe? Put large potato in microwave. Nuke for about 10 minutes, test centre of potato with skewer. If soft, leave metal skewer in the potato then put potato in oven, about 180deg. until skin feels a bit crispy! Truly delicious, butter, cheddar cheese, whatever. I scooped the...

    Puzzled, need advice please

Agreed. It makes complete sense to continue the path I have chosen. I need to lose a fair bit more weight so am deciding on my target! I will continue to avoid sucrose and limit my carb intake to as little as possible but knowing I can have a baked potato skin is lovely. Although there are...

    Puzzled, need advice please

Bless you. Ok, just taken another test. Result decreased slightly as I would expect 45 mins later. I had a packet of cheese n onion on Friday after a long walk back from GP and again I didn’t get the reading I feared. I long for my favourite...rice and curry but won’t push my luck until October...

    Puzzled, need advice please

Good evening. Diagnosed T2 three months ago. HbA1c 89 at the time. On metformin 1000mg SR once a day. I do low carb, basically eat to my meter a GlucoZen. My second HbA1c was on Friday, latest result 34. Fabulous. Lost 1.5stone, done walking etc. So far so good. Now I am trying to add in foods...

    Withdrawal From Forum

OK, it’s not an age thing, I am only a few years younger than you. I have zero experience in web design. I would describe myself as averagely competent in using Internet. There is a huge amount of info on this site. A number of different health conditions. It feels like the site design needs...

Stopped mine Friday after advising GP of my preference to stop.

    Truly disgusting

Why does this hold no surprises for me? Well as a retired, politically active (think union rep) senior nurse, I have seen a fair amount of behaviour motivated by profit, money, greed, kudos. So tie ins between public health leaders and for profit industry including food, pharma etc is obvious. I...

    Withdrawal From Forum

I agree it’s a bit “busy” in terms of presentation. It’s tricky finding how to post up a new thread...I still struggle to find this. It does not show me as logged in when I am logged in, it has glitches, it hasn’t changed the member numbers in 3 months but...the support from the members is...

    Cutting back on BG testing?

My apologies...I have had a few moments with mods -way in the past - on another site so my (well developed) sense of humour didn’t kick in. I grovel

    Cutting back on BG testing?

Really?? For a predictive test error! I really can’t believe that.

    Cutting back on BG testing?

I have just had my first HbA1c result since diagnosis three months ago. Huge learning curve. I cut out sugar and carbs as much as was possible. Hard years as they say. Found xylitol which helped me make a few things I like. Exercise, mostly walking. Gone from 89 to 34. Never expected that much...

    New To This

That's good news. Perhaps you might consider limiting your carbs and sugar intake in the future plus a spot of exercise? It might be a way to a healthy future for you. Best of luck.
