How long did you think you had diabetes before diagnosis?

That's putting it lightly. He said to me, why didn't you say something, I m your GP. I was dumbfounded, I thought he was the Doctor. It's strange that they don't do blood panels at least once every few years. Now am on insulin till I die. Horrible.

How long did you think you had diabetes before diagnosis?

To add HBA1c on diagnosis was so high that it wasn't on the chart. Worst year of my adult life so far. And most frightening. I have lost feeling in my right foot toes and have neuropathy in both hands and cataracts started in both eyes. I don't know what the moral of the story is except I feel...

How long did you think you had diabetes before diagnosis?

Ickihun, , wow are you serious. Having had it so long did you have complications already. To answer your question, I was seeing a GP regularly for unrelated issues, 3x a year at least. I trusted him, the last time he did a blood test on me was 2004. Nothing since, in 2016 may I said to him, I...

    Does caffeine raise anyones bg?

Thanks, I think it was the lift coffee used to give me. Not the taste really. No bad thing giving it up. Had not heard that about aspartame, uh uh may have to give up the caffeine free sugar free coke now!

How long did you think you had diabetes before diagnosis?

I am in shock. Sudden type 1 diagnosis in May. GP awful and blase. I am 45, and was a fitness fanatic really, ate well, exercised, had a lot of problems with feet, ways very cold last 5 years and lots of urination. Drank coke and lucozade endlessly to curb thirst. Crazy.

    Does caffeine raise anyones bg?

Any time of day at all. I used to think it was the milk, then tried soy milk, then just gave it up. Same with diet It has caffeine in as well. Am now having decaff soy latte (1g carb/100ml.), Miss coffee a lot, but it was making my anxiety worse I think as well. One once in a while would be nice...

    I feel so upset inside

Hello, it's a life changing thing. Accepting it is very very difficult, I was diagnosed 4 months, and feel like its the end of the world. I hate taking insulin, and become obsessed with testing bg. I also have complication s(feetand eyes), that made me very depressed. You have to have hope...

HbA1c result 4.7 good or bad?

Hello, A HBA1C of4.7 is exceptional. As a type 1 , trying to get it lower is probably not worth it. It's fantastic. Not sure most non diabetics would be in that range. You do need to speak with an Endocrinologist, ideally one who has a lot of experience in diabetes, not a general one. I have...

How long did you think you had diabetes before diagnosis?

Am interested to know if it was greater than 10 years especially and what complications you had by the time of diagnosis and how you are feeling now.

Newly diagnosed and freaking out :(

I think it is quite normal to freak, I was put on insulin immediately on diagnosis. One minute you think you're fine, next minute you have a disease for life. It's very hard to get used to the idea of it, let alone come to terms with anything so soon. It's shocking, and continues to be a big...

Type 2 Type 2 question: Was anyone ever started on insulin and then gone on oral meds only?

Thanks, yes it is the reverse of the normal process. I understand though some type 2s can have very high bg on diagnosis, be prescribed insulin and once they have that under control, go to oral medications that increase insulin sensitivity.

Type 2 Natural sugars in fruit

I found strawberries and blueberries in moderation in double cream a good dessert. Pears, apples, bananas, nectarines, etc. seem to be particularly prone to cause spikes.

    Type 2 Monitor readings

I think the monitors are allowed to be out by +or - 15% by law and are still considered accurate. As Robbity says better to look for trends after certain foods. E.g does it tend to spike by a certain amount after eating something in particular or particular mealtimes or waking.

Hello, I wanted to find this out, if this happens, and even if you had the option would you take it?

    St Thomas's London Diabetic unit

Thanks, was a little worried about the low carb thing, since most nhs advice is contrary to it. Are the DSN quite accessible? My current dsn is acessible quite easily and wondered if going to a big hospital would change that. Any other tips welcome from anyone.
