    Strange blood glucose readings

Thanx - I do work out twice a week at the gymn (my husband has heart disease so we're trying really hard to get fit) as well as doing one three mile walk a week and walking dogs daily, anything from 20 mins to an hour. Been going to gymn since last year........ I cannot understand why the bg...

    Strange blood glucose readings

hello I started low carbing in earnest one week ago. My evening bg readings have dropped dramatically from somewhere between 7.5 and 8.5 to a pleasing 5.7 (last night at midnight when I retired.) However, my morning readings are still much higher than I would like, so last night I tested my...

    Confused

Thanks for the replies - I was getting very confused over all the conflicting advice, so it seems that this is an individual thing. I test twice daily - just out of interest, my GP will provide a test kit and test strips for type 2s but only about 10 strips every 3 months! BG already improving...

    Confused

I am confused as to how many grams of carbs I should be eating to improve my type 2 diabetes. Hannah Sutter recommends less than 60g a day but advice on your forum is that we should avoid vegetables such as carrots. Since these are only 6g of carb per 100g, why do we need to avoid them? An...

Weight Gaining help, Protein Shakes maybe for type 2?

I have very successfully used protein shakes to REDUCE weight - you do have to be careful of the sugar content though as some of them are quite high. I have never used them to gain weight - opposite problem to you!

    Dawn phenoenum

Re: Dawn phenonemum Thanks for the reply. I am not eating much in the way of carbs at all, having cut out bread, potatoes, pasta, rice, anything containing flour or sugar and most starchy veg such as beets and parsnips. This is why I am so surprised at the morning high levels. Last night for...

    Dawn phenoenum

I have been low carbing for a month now and have lost half a stone or so but I was really hoping to reduce my blood glucose readings. Last night my BG reading was 4.9 but this morning it was back up at 9! I am probably suffering from this dawn phenomenon I have heard about but what can I do...

Had a glucose tolerance test last week...

I refuse to have a glucose tolerance test - the test is a comparison so if you have one you will certainly have to have another and I don't intend to be put through what would undoubtedly give me a bad headache just because some crusty old doctor invented this most unpleasnat process. My advice...

    Appalled at experiments on dogs

"I wonder if you'd been this outraged if it had been done in mice only" I don't like experiments on any animals but my main points have been 1) Animals should not be used when there are viable alternatives (and from my knowledge there are, nowadays;) 2) at the very least there should be comment...

    Appalled at experiments on dogs

Thanks RRB! Yes, I am passionate about this, but I have been stung at some of the personal attacks. What shocked me particularly was the fact that the research was published without any comments about the welfare of the test subjects - it is an ethical issue. I would like to see any report...

    Appalled at experiments on dogs

How did the dogs get diabetes in the first place? How didi the blind dogs get blind in the first place (see ? (it would have to be blindness from a particular cause for the scientists to be abler to teat their "cure." Do you really think that the scientists sent a request around all the vets in...

    Appalled at experiments on dogs

To all of you who say that testing on animals is inevitable - it isn't, that't the point. Other means are available and actually are very much more effective than using animals who don't respond in the same way that humans do. There is no question of denying treatment to any age group in...

    Appalled at experiments on dogs

As a diabetes sufferer, I am nonetheless appalled at the experiments done on dogs, even if it paves the way for a human cure. These animals cannot consent to this treatment and we have not been given any details of how these experiments were carried out i.e. were these animals just "lab"...

    Menopause and type 2 diabetes

Thanks Pat, I had a look at the site and as you say, the results are inconclusive! Interesting, though as the other strange thing for me is that I have only one known relative who ever was diagnosed with type 2 and that was a great-aunt, so not close AND she was in her late 90s when diagnosed...

    Menopause and type 2 diabetes

I have just been looking through some old posts and found some on the menopause. I wonder if anyone else was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes within 2 months of having their last menstruation like me? I have always thought that it was a bit too much of a coincidence. A good thing though was that...
