What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

@Annb First, I hope your procedure tomorrow goes well and that you have no delays and everyone is kind to you, as it makes such a difference. Secondly, I agree that when cheese is cooked it seems to lose some of its flavour. We sometimes have (or used to have I should now say) macaroni cheese...

You guys must be rubbing off on me

Testing is indeed very expensive. I've been testing like mad so far but I'm going to ease off now, partly because of the expense but also because in my case I don't think it serves any purpose to test all the time. I'm 'only' pre-diabetic so still have a half decent response to carbs and in two...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

B: Water L: A little bit of smoked salmon that needed eating up and then 50g of cold roast beef, lentils, kimchi, 2 sun-dried toms, a pear and 33g of St Augur and 20g of 90% choc. A coffee made with almond milk and a splash of double cream. Afternoon snack. An oatcake with 33g of manchego. Pre...

You guys must be rubbing off on me

I hope your result is good but you are being sensible in readying yourself for one which isn't what you're hoping for. Whatever it is, you are certainly on the right track. I've low carbing for two weeks now and manage around 60 - 80g of carbs per day most days. My BG levels from finger prick...

Prediabetes When to do a postprandial finger prick test

Thanks for the advice. With regard to food on my hands, even if I've used cutlery for everything I always wash my hands thoroughly in soap and water and dry them before doing the finger prick test.

    Ideas for spicing-up vegetables

Thank you! I've discovered from that that if I set up a thread I need to 'watch' it because people are unlikely to quote you, they will simply reply to the thread, and so you only get a notification if they 'mention' you (again not likely) or you are watching the thread.

Fasting BG rising - when to worry

I've concluded that the finger prick machines we use can give some randomly high or (more rarely) low numbers. On a number of occasions I've done a test and it's been 6.8, say, and then done another one immediately after with the same drop of blood and it's 9.8 or something of that order. If I...

    Ideas for spicing-up vegetables

Thanks for all the suggestions (I've only just seen them as I didn't get an alert for any of them). @LaoDan I'd read about kimchi but only recently (about a month ago) saw it in the supermarket and bought some. I agree it is good as spicing things up, although it is quite high in salt so I...

Prediabetes When to do a postprandial finger prick test

I've read that if you're doing a 1 or 2 hour postprandial finger prick test the clock starts as soon as you've had your first bite of food (or sip of drink if it has carbs in). I can see that that would work if you don't take very long eating your meal but what if the meal takes longer than 15...

Welcome. I'm pretty new myself. but I've quickly discovered that everyone is very friendly and always willing to help with recipes and advice.

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

I realise it's not much of a rise and the numbers anyway aren't that bad. I was just hoping that eating something would have a positive effect but it didn't make any difference compared to the day before when I ate nothing before lunch. Still, it was worth trying but I'm not a natural breakfast...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

This morning my fasting readings at 08.40 were 6.8 and 7.0. At 9 o'clock I had a mug of coffee with almond milk and 20ml of Jersey crema and a medium boiled egg. I did readings again at 11.00 and they had gone up to 7.5 and 7.7 so it looks as though eating something with fat doesn't help me...

Thank you for thinking of me. I will watch it when I have a moment.

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Thank you, and to @shelley262 too. I thought that DP came on before you woke up/as you were waking up, rather than some time later, or is this incorrect? My BG readings just before supper were 5.3 and 5.5 though so perhaps the liver dump was after I'd got up and taken my morning readings...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

We got back from the restaurant about an hour ago. They gave us a free rhubarb martini but it was rather sweet for my taste, which also made me wonder how many carbs it contained, so I had about 2/3 and left the rest. I would have liked to refuse it altogether but that would have looked very...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Well, I'm confused. My morning fasting BGs are always between 7 and 8.5 - usually high 7s - low 8s. Today, at 08.40, using the last strip from my Sinocare machine I had 6.1 and then, because I didn't believe it, I did two on my Gluco RX and the readings were 5.7 and 5.5. What's going on? I...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

@Annb Thank you for your lovely post. You are right about being older (and heavier!) slowing us down. I've always been quite a capable person and I don't like feeling that I'm not managing everything well. In my head I'm still about 35 but the reality is, of course, somewhat different...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

I haven't been deducting the fibre but had just wondered whether I could/should so you have dashed my hopes on that one. At least I hadn't been deducting them incorrectly, as that would have been much worse. I had quite a good day yesterday, carbs-wise: B: Mug of coffee with almond milk, tsp...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Thanks Shelley for the kind thoughts and the information too. You are right about looking after myself and I'm now trying to get my BS and weight under control as I need to keep the show on the road, so to speak.

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

@Annb That's horrible for you as I get yourself psyched up for these things, plus you want to get the result so that you can 'move on'. I'm pleased that the party went well though and you all had a good time.
