    First visit with doctor

I remember the pharmacist saying that you had to start on a very low dose and to gradually get used to them. Yuk - they wouldn't have done me much good anyway since I get spikes due to the steroids I take. Good luck for you.

Type 2s: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning? (very low chat level)

An improved 4.8 this morning (and no Gliclizade last night which is good)

    First visit with doctor

I couldn't take them - made me run to the loo unfortunately and made me feel vaguely nauseous from the word go. They are unfortunately known for their ability to upset the tummy!

    First visit with doctor

I've given up arguing with them about it! Some GP's in my practice are better than others (or should I say pushier than others?!). The irony is the one that is supposed to be the specialist diabetes doctor doesn't seem to know that much! As someone else on the forum said, smile and ignore...

    First visit with doctor

I swear they get paid to stick people on statins! They made noises about it when I had my second appointment at the diabetes clinic. I couldn't understand why my LDL cholesterol had gone up when in fact I had lost nearly 2 stone in weight at that point. Turns out that is what weight loss can...

Type 2s: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning? (very low chat level)

Eeek - 3.6 this morning - jelly babies to the rescue - I think I should have dropped yesterday evening's Gliclizade.

    Back into Exercising

Very well done! I'm a walker myself - though I must try swimming when the weather is bad enough to put me off my brisk walk!

Type 2s: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning? (very low chat level)

A bit higher today at 6.3 (I knew I shouldn't have had that ginger biscuit!) Oh well back to being good.

Must admit I don't like getting that low - not a nice feeling.

Type 2s: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning? (very low chat level)

Again a bit low today - 3.7 - I think I may be getting to the point where I don't need one of the gliclizade tablets. (Note to self must get my HBAC1 checked!)

I keep a ready supply of Lucozade in the fridge also!

    Statins & high cholesterol

Just remember that weight loss can cause your LDL to go up - see the link below http://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/weight-loss-can-raise-ldl-etc.125560/

a bit low at 3.8 this morning (jelly babies came to the rescue!)

Type 2 Steroids and effect on Type 2 diabetes

I know they do this from experience - I have steroid induced diabetes. Steroids when taken in the morning cause your BS levels to rise in the afternoon and evening. Metformin won't do much to counteract spikes like this. How long a course of steroids have you been prescribed? You may need...

    Worried non diabetic

Somehow I don't think I'd want anything to do with anyone he would recommend! I know you said you rarely had time to yourself - what with hubby and the 3 kids, but you need to look after yourself. Even if its just finding a half hour or an hour a day to just chill with nothing to do but relax...

    Worried non diabetic

Can I just say - your old GP should have been shot! Appalling behaviour from someone in the medical profession - he obviously had a bee in his bonnet about diabetes which unfortunately you bore the brunt of for some unknown reason. I know this country has a bit of a nanny state to it - but...

    Gliclazide effects

I'd agree about it causing hypos - I had to stop taking it altogether when I had to do a 48 hour starve when I had gastroenteritis. My lowest level before I stopped it - 2.8 - not good - scary how shaky I felt!. Anyway I have found that if I eat too many carbs it can react and drop my BS level...

    Gliclazide effects

Thank you for your kind words.:):) I must admit the weight loss has been due to carb control i.e. going under 100g a day and keeping it going. Its been hard work at time (and I have to say I have had the occasional treat), but once breaking the habit of eating carbs and sweets is done, you...

    Gliclazide effects

I can honestly say that the Gliclizade has not made me put on weight. The problem is (as I understand it - and please correct me if I am wrong!) that it reacts with the amount of carbs you have and therefore stimulates the pancreas to produce insulin. Therefore the more carbs you have, the...

What HB1Ac reading would mean you have Type 2

My mum was the same last year - she had a level of 48. She is now at 43 following stopping eating cakes, and lowering the amount of carbs she eats. She's also lost a stone in weight (and considering she has arthritis and can't exercise that's quite a significant drop).
