Remember SouthCoastBoy that you need targets and goals. The overall objective is to get your A1Cs lower. Set targets for weight loss, exercising and most of all your daily carbs. You need to be testing bg levels several times a day to see what foods make your bg go higher and you can then keep...

Type 2 Is avocado beneficial to eat?

I love avocado. Many years ago I had a prawn cocktail with avocado that made me really ill so I didn't eat them until last year. Started eating them again for my low carb diet and it must have been the prawns that were off :hungover: because now I sometimes have 1/2 for lunch with a salad. The...

    "Eat to the meter" contemplation

And more pain :( at a higher cost if you do at least 12 tests a day. I was doing 1 before and 2 after each meal, 1 before and/or after a snack and one late evening. I would have done one at wake-up for dawn phenomenon except I kept forgetting. Wish I had the meter 13 years ago when I was...

    Newly Diagnosed

Hi Sandeep Well done on the A1c result. I have been on low carb for about a year and have mine down to 6.4. You are on the right track with the diet. You definitely need to see your doctor about the other issues. We cannot diagnose here but we can and do give information and support. You may...

Newly diagnosed , confused and scared

Hi Mandedog. Also in Canada and previously in the UK. I went on the Canadian site for a few months but asked some questions that would have been 'difficult' for a pharma site to answer. Never got any answers from the sponsors and everything seemed geared to making us think we are dependent on...

    "Eat to the meter" contemplation

In Canada I got my first Libre without a prescription and then the same pharmacy gave me the form for completion by my doctor to convince my health insurance company that they should cover the cost (70%) because 10+ strip tests a day with them paying the strip costs is less than the Libre cost...

    New kid on the block

A belated welcome. I am in Canada so I am a little behind those of you in Europe. Something to remember and to aim for is that you may not need to stay on insulin. I was put on insulin in February 2018 with ever increasing amounts until last July when I started a low carb diet. An ever...

    Hello from Cumbria

Hi Paul and welcome from Canada, though I did live in the Lake District (nr Coniston) for about 6 months and visited many times over many years. Questions, information for us, helping each other...this is the place to be. Music and gardening? Not so much.

    Libre problems

I've been using for 6 months and no problems except the reader stopped recognizing tabs for a blood test. Abbott changed the reader immediately. I agree too much plastic but I suspect that that are using the least possible to save money.

Libre results - analysing downloaded numbers?

I use Open Office calc and it sees the csv file as an Adobe pdf that is opened as a Word type document. Any ideas or what I need to do right?

    Hi Newbie here

Hi Anthia. You got to the forum at the right time - before you see the medical professionals so you can see how we have reacted to specialist information and suggestions and how we have organised and controlled our diet, exercise and testing to get and keep our Alcs back in the 'normal' range...

Started the survey then stopped when I didn't find any of the suggestions helpful as I am already doing most of them. Often following helpful suggestions from this forum.

Type 2 diagnosed with diabetes last year.

Welcome paultherise. Following a low carb diet for the last 12 months I stopped taking insulin last December, Trajenta earlier this year and now only have 2x500 gm Metformin a day down from 4x500 gm. My target is to stop Metformin. I find I need to have a target as this helps to stop me...

    Finger Pricks

BTW - The increased weight was before I started on low carb and began lowering my insulin. I have now lost over 30 lbs. Down to about 157 lbs which is back to my weight at 18 when I was playing rugby 2 or 3 times a week. The low carb really works. The problem with insulin for me was that if my...

    Finger Pricks

Hi Route 66 - that's a long way to go. I was started on insulin in Feb 2018 and was told to check just before each meal. My dose was 18 units of 30/70 in the morning before breakfast and 14 units before the evening meal. All meals were supposed to be taken at the same times every day. There was...

Prediabetes Can I eat any bread at all, I’m prediabetic

From the Food Diary section of the Low Carb Program. Actually I lied 4 bacon and 3 large eggs are only 1.8 carbs. This morning my dawn phenomenon was 8.4 so that was all I needed to eat.

Prediabetes Can I eat any bread at all, I’m prediabetic

As mentioned already, we all react differently to different foods and we need to test to find out our individual bg changes after different foods. This means testing before and, preferably, one and two hours after each meal.If you can get a constant glucose monitor (CGM) do that. They are...

    Type 2 Sugar in fruit.

Blueberries always spike my sugar levels as do most fruits. Strawberries are probably best for me but I have to be careful because growers in the US used to 'feed' strawberries with sugared water to make them taste sweeter. Not sure if this happens in other countries. I also note that the list...

    Porridge & Banana

When in hospital my breakfast always included porridge and a half banana. This was the supposed diabetic diet. The meal also had a piece of toast, jam (not low sugar), grape or apple juice and coffee. No wonder that was when they said I had to start on insulin. I think this hospital diet may be...

New type 2 and GP Practice doesnt have appointments for 6 months or more

Hi Jellytott Hope you are still around and listening to what everybody says. Just over 12 months ago my so-called specialist said, "I can't do anything more for you, you are on your own." Sounds like your doctor. Then a friend told me about this site and forum and I discovered I was not on my...
